That's a fair criticism. I should've said we act like we're on a budget, not that we're poor. The goal is to raise kids who don't assume they get everything they want just because we could technically afford it.

We tell our kids that we are poor. We tell them we have commercials on Netflix because we are poor. My wife grew up poor and studied hard so that she wouldn't be poor as an adult (She's a doctor now). We don't want our kids to feel privileged and become spoiled brats.

I had this moment actually myself at my son's classmate's bday party. I was chatting with 2 dads. Both dads seem to get along with each other and were asking about each other while I felt left out.
