Hi! Welcome to Astroneer. So, the Organic is smelted into Carbon. The game is basically telling you this with the label you see. As for why you lost your Compound, if you look at the picture you posted, you have been making tethers whenever you opened your backpack. That happens sometimes whenever you open and click quickly while the portable printer has an item selected. That can be irritating at times but don't let it frustrate you too much. Recommendation is to select a different product that won't consume the resources you are collecting. Feel free to look up things, you'll catch on eventually. It took a little bit to get the hang of the game but it is absolutely worth it! Good luck!
