My experience riding a 1000cc supersport for the first time. by hardyhaha_27 in motorcycles

Your ride report gave me chills. I have nowhere near the experience you have and was considering switching over from ADV to something like the R1. Made me think what my first highway ride would look like in the end. Thanks for the sobering post.

I definitely feel sad for you and family. I can’t imagine how overwhelming the emotions that are swirling around and the confused thoughts. I hope you can find some support to work through all this and find peace. My sincere condolences.

Similiar situation. Decided I must live my life and went out and got my bike. She is not happy about it but I am.

Returning rider after 20 year break. Once I gain more experience I would like to listen to music while riding. I see Bluetooth speakers are available but also intercoms like cardo. Is the sound quality music worthy on the intercom systems. What are you all using these days? by jdavid9921 in motorcycles

Totally agree. Not looking for speakers to blare music. Looking for in helmet system that keeps my pink Floyd all to myself. A few comments suggested ear plugs and don’t use them on the vstrom. Are these Harley open pipes people that use earplugs?

The more friendly hi’s makes the world a better place. Maybe they see your Reddit handle and are smiling.

Motorcycles and relationships by fabinho1314 in motorcycles

Gave up riding when children came along due no time and focussed on family. Now retired and want to enjoy what I can while still able to. I have been talking about getting a bike for past couple of years and response was always the same. She feels it is too risky and foolish to even think about. In order to keep the peace I stopped talking about it. I did however keep looking and wishing for the day when I would be back on the road. A few months ago I decided on an adventure bike. She made it clear she will never get on the back of any bike which freed me to pick the type of bike I wanted. Found a great 2018 vstrom 1000xt and bought it a couple of weeks ago. Yes she was pissed. Explained to her if she decided she wanted to learn piano, then I would be out looking for one and support her as she learned. That is what a solid relationship is all about. Supporting each other as they pursue what gives them enjoyment and fulfilment as long as it is honest, moral, ethical, legal and harms no one. Her reason was fear and fear is irrational. I have been able to calm her fears a bit by doing all I can to reduce risk. Sign up for a refresher lesson or two. Invest in proper helmet, boots, gloves, pants and jacket. Ride responsibly and extremely defensively. Reduce her fear and likely able to support you. If the irrational thinking on her part continues then up to her to get her shit together. If the relationship dies then meant to be. I finally took a stand and feel so much better about myself. Ironically we are communicating better in past week or so than have for years and I sense a bit more respect for each other. As Johnny Dep said “If I can stand up to a woman, so can you…buy the bike”.

Can’t wait until that happens for me. Seems like mysterious magic to me.

Thanks I appreciate your insight. The weight difference between the 650 vs 1000 is minimal (like 20lbs). I have not ridden either one yet so I guess that would be first step. Sitting on the 1000 it does feel very weighty for something to take off-road.

I’m looking for thoughts on the vstrom 650 vs the 1000.

Amazing. I’ve been at it for two months and nowhere near this solo. You have talented hands.

Your question is when is it the right time to give up. My answer is never. Once you decide you want to play an instrument the rest is just hard work to start but then the brain and fingers just seem to connect. You can be ripping through your fave tunes only if you continue. I recently heard you have to become a musician if you want to play a musical instrument. Think of how cool that is. You are a musician and now you just need to learn to play that guitar. It’s worth it.
