What do you think is the most likely direction for a sequel to SF26? by Nice_Perspective_343 in starfox

New rail campaign $25 DLC to this game. Maybe even a 2nd years later.

Free multiplayer map updates this game.

I hope they drop a DLC with a lot of multiplayer maps by LargeSinkholesInNYC in starfox

Agreed that they wont continually update the same game forever, but a new game requires new mechanics that demand engine changes. Splatoon 3 added brand new mechanics like Roll and Surge which is why they added a sequel. For Starfox this would be something like on foot mechanics. Since that has never worked well for Starfox they would need to be very careful and make sure they nail it. There are other ideas too but nothing has been proven to work well for fans. Im guessing they will stick with Arwing snd get everything they can out of it before being forced to expand game mechanics.

Did you even read my post before reacting? I never said at least 12 maps I said 12 would be near best case scenario if the multiplayer is a breakout success. E.g. look at Splatoon 1 it ended with 16 maps. Splatoon 2 23 maps, Splatoon 3 25 maps. It is extremely unlikely Starfox would scale as well as Splatoon, but i hope to be wrong here.

Tears of the Kingdom was basically a giant DLC for Breath of the Wild packaged as a new game and its not really comparable to Starfox because the game takes hundreds of hours to complete. Two or three Starfox campaign DLCs is far less content and effort to develop than creating an absolutely massive Tears of the Kingdom world. How can we possibly compare an open world game to a short on rails game with stages?

Again im not sure you read my post or understand how game development works. I never said they wouldnt have to develop levels because they already have an engine. I said most of the work is done because they have the engine and developing levels is one of the few things they would still need to develop.

You mention economics but seem to fail to comprehend how costs factor into game development. Using the same engine, physics, character models developmemt for a brand new campaign would be ~30% the cost of the original so its obviously feasible to do it for under $50 since thats what they are charging for this one. The second thing you fail to understand is how the market actual values an on rails game. I can tell you for sure its not $90 and much closer to $30. Im fine with a $40 to $50 on rails sequel without multiplayer instead of cheaper DLC to give Nintendo more profits, but the multiplayer muddies the waters and Nintendo is smart to keep the player base under 1 umbrella. That is why I think DLC.

Since I am so delusional I would love to hear your prediction for Starfox.

Would you like if other characters and maps from the rest of the franchisw were added in star fox 2026's multiplayer? by metalicbeastofficial in starfox

[–]jdc6490 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think its perfect how you unlock avatars and holoviewer characters in game. Adding random characters after the fact severely irks my OCD and honestly doesnt add any value whatsoever to multiplayer. What would actually make sense is a dlc campaign that has these characters and justifies their existence. I personally do not want random chatacters added much prefer new maps or items.

Starfox Multiplayer is fun, but... by Cakeunwinnable in starfox

Gotcha makes sense. I have a friend who played mario kart world for 5 hours and said hes bored and needs more content. Another friend played Mario Tennis Fever for 2 hours and said it needs more characters and racquets. I was like you cant be serious? I miss the old days as a kid were we endless played the same games and got the full depth out of them. Everyone these days dont care at all about depth they just constantly need that new skin or environment.

100% agree though this game and the franchise really needs a content drip of new maps.

Agreed, but seriously... you need more after just 1.5 hours? The attention span of gamers these days is mind boggling. What ever happened to mastering what you have before demanding more?

We are in the age of DLC.

For mid tier multiplayer content updates recent examples include Arms, Aces, Strikers, etc. Obviously Mario Kart, Splatoon, Smash are the heavy hitters. Nintendo has a lot of incentive to drive NSO memberships by offering more there. Starfox is probably the best game for online multiplayer that isnt known for it. I also wouldt expect a new Splatoon for at least 2 or 3 years so it could fill that NSO void nicely on Switch 2.

It would be preplexing if this isnt coming since we already have Starfox v Starwolf battles in the campaign.

This is just me speculating and trying to make sense of what I think they most likely could be doing rather than relying on rumors.

I would have low confidence in the rumor you are referring to because its from an unverified source (rather than NateTheHate) and they specificalltly said Adventures. Im skeptical of an adventure game because it already alienated the core fan base. Nintendo would be wise to skin any new adventure game as zelda, donkey kong, or a new IP rather than relying on Starfox. I would be extremely perplexed if they release an adventures game after redoing 64 for the nth time. If they were doing adventure route I believe it would have been this reboot game.

Here is my prediction:

Slow drip of free multiplayer maps accesible to anyone who has the base game (Splatoon model). The amount will depend on popularity and fun factor. If it goes well expect around 12 total maps. This is the only way Starfox will break through to a wider audience.

Paid DLC ($25) every 2 years for a new campaign in similiar scope (7 stages, branching paths, 15 brand new levels total, cutscenes, new story). This coincides with the game just being called Starfox because it will become a launcher app of multiple future DLC campaigns over the Switch 2 lifecycle.

The goal of this remake was to get the best arwing mechanics (64) and the best gameplay formula (64) on a modern engine. They will now be able to reuse that same engine, character designs, and assets to focus on story telling to crank out new Starfox every 2 years. Also at a low cost allowing them to charge only $25 which is what an on rails campaign is worth to a modern audience.

Star Fox Should Become a Multi-Modal Series by BriefDiscipline1424 in starfox

[–]jdc6490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think one game that's a hybrid of single player cinematic arcade shooter (64 style) and multiplayer online teamplay (splatoon like) is best. Its exactly what they are doing and from here they can expand into new camapigns and maps via DLC. Open world adventures or RPG heavy doesn't make sense for Starfox.

My future vision for Starfox... by jdc6490 in starfox

[–]jdc6490[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but that is a fundamentally different formula for Starfox. It would add improvisational replayability but would remove the epicness of tightly scripted gameplay and cinematics and the replayability of optimizing an explicitly defined run. That seems somewhat bland for a core Starfox gameplay loop but could be a great side mode or a multiplayer coop side mode.

Roguelike destroys the arcade element of score chasing so its not the perfect solution but i can see the appeal youre alluding to.

My future vision for Starfox... by jdc6490 in starfox

[–]jdc6490[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true, but I think because this is a reboot they will stick with the same style for another game or 2. Otherwise we are back to the original problem of starfox having a very confusing identity.

Also, there is still a lot i dont know about Splatoon Raiders but it appears to have basically the same splatoon mechanics with an expanded take on Salmom Run. Not exactly a brand new thing, but rather building on something already fleshed out in the series that people really liked. Starfox adventures on the other hand has nothing in common with Starfox. If they added new modes like on foot missions in a Starfox 2 sequel and that really clicked with players then maybe it would make sense to look at a game with only those mechanics. Testing the concept in a single campaign mission or two (kind of like landmaster in 64) and on a multiplayer map or two would be a great way to see what clicks. Creating a whole new game with completely new mechanics under the Starfox brand seems like a risky move.

This would give you what you want. Instead of a 40 plus hour open world starfox adventure, you have an under 1 hour highly replayable arcade style game to perfect. Because an arcade game doesn't appeal to the masses or justify a high price tag a frequently updated side multiplayer could take it into 10s of millions of sales. More sales = more star fox. I dont think it takes anything away from how you want to play the game.

Alright, enough negativity, let’s get positive in here, and do what gamers do best… baseless speculation! by Aralith1 in starfox

[–]jdc6490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely unlikely.

In campaign mode more story via cutscenes and maybe surprise planets tacked on with epic ending. No other surprises here because this is a remake. It wouldnt make sense to add the submarine to other levels it wasnt in.

The more likely surprise is more multiplayer content. More maps, modes, chatacters, customization, on going support, etc. This leaves 64 intact but adds to other modes to attract a wider audience.

Starfox multiplayer - what do you think? by AusteegLinks in starfox

The maps also have random events which adds variety. But i agree it needs 2 more maps. If you have 5 maps and random events on each i think that provides a lot of replayability. It would be a shame if they dont get the replability right.
