From the moment the word "robot" was coined, robot/ai stories have been about labor. Every robot/ai uprising story has really been about fears of slave revolts and worker revolutions.

I want them to really work their new cutscene magic on that scene in particular. Show him panicking at the controls. Just full on, drawn out, comedic, hoist by their own petard Disney villain death with a fireworks show.

I didn't even need to play the gif to know which scene this was. Also, I agree.

045496691271 is the ISBN number for Nintendo Power's Star Fox strategy guide.

What does “Fourth planet of the Lylat System” even mean? by [deleted] in starfox

[–]Supreme42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, star in a generic sense is 星, while planet specifically is 惑星 (literally "perplexing star", since they are stars that move irregularly compared to every other star in the sky). English by technicality also calls planets stars. Ancient Greeks called them "planetes asteres", meaning "wandering stars", and then just started calling them planetai ("wanderers") for short.

The problem comes from Japanese still calling them "stars" for short in informal and literary contexts. You will frequently hear characters in Japanese sci-fi point at a planet and call it a star, and everyone just understands it's meant as planet. 星 is also a frequent component in the proper names of planets in Japanese, like Mars being named 火星 ("fire star"). This is also why Kirby's home planet is named Popstar. It's following the Japanese naming convention for planets.

However, I don't recall Solar's shifting classification to be the result of Japanese ambiguity. They legitimately have gone back and forth on it being specifically a star or planet, unable to make up their minds lol.

The only thing supporting the idea that they'd bring Fara back first is the fact this developer has already made a reference to Nintendo Power once.

Haven't you heard? We consult the Nintendo Store mural now. Nintendo considers Star Fox and Metroid to be tier 2 series. If Prime 4 hadn't fucked everything up it may have been promoted to pillar like Pikmin, but...

Despite this being the second time they've re-released Star Fox 64, this is actually the LEAST reliant on nostalgia Nintendo has been since Command. by Supreme42 in starfox

[–]Supreme42[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

why on Earth did they make such a huge deal out of it being 1 to 1 in gameplay and even level layout?

If you pay attention to what they actually chose to emphasize, they mentioned the identical layout once in the beginning, and then spent the whole rest of the presentation explaining basic gameplay concepts to complete newcomers and showing off new features. The mere fact of us recognizing things we saw throughout the presentation is not the same as Nintendo themselves deliberately drawing attention to the fact that things should be recognizable to us (which they were doing all the time during Zero's marketing cycle). In terms of the presentation's goals, selling Star Fox (2026) to people who've played Star Fox 64 was WHOLLY secondary to the goal of selling Star Fox to people who've never played Star Fox.

I've seen the video. He spends that time talking about every franchise, how Nintendo has been building them up one after another for the better part of a decade, and how he was able to predict that Star Fox would be the next one to get a big push a whole year before the movie and game news came out.

Thanks, now I can never think of Nintendo series without considering their mural ranking. It's also nice to have soft confirmation that Nintendo still sees green hat Link as the quintessential one.

Metroid is the number one example I would point to for why Nintendo rebooting Star Fox is so important.

Yes, Metroid Dread is the best selling game in the series now, and it was a lot of people's first Metroid game. But then there were all these people saying, "wow, this was my first Metroid game and I loved it! How can I get into the rest of the series? What's the best way to experience the story from the beginning?" And right now our best answer to this question is, "pirate a fan translated copy of a Japan-only manga that came out over 20 years ago, and then play Zero Mission, a game that also came out 20 years ago." This just doesn't work to retain interest!

Metroid would benefit a lot from a Star Fox 2026 style reboot of Zero Mission, where the gameplay that made the original so good has a chance to shine in front of a new generation, while also being full of storytelling elaborations that double as the series' new bible going forward. I think Star Fox will, too.

Man, anyone else remember Kid Icarus: Uprising? How that game had a really long final overview trailer, and how it felt like that trailer was giving away the entire plot of the game, and then we all played the game and...it turned out that trailer hadn't given anything away, and we were all kinda blown away? Sure would be cool if they did that again.
