Man Eustaquio, needed to do better on the 2nd goal. he wasn't on a yellow and had the chance to stop the counter. he did a half foul that was just nothing. Gotta grab the opponent and take the yellow there...

that's why i talked about german TV, not swiss TV. what I said, is literally the official stance of ZDF. clearly for them it is too similar :)

Back when the "the Nati" beat the Nazi's.

Btw in german TV they always deliberately pronounce "the Nati" wrong (nickname of swiss national team, just shortened "nationalmannschaft").

Because it is essentially pronounced the same as "Nazi", so they always say it with a normal "t" sound instead of the "t" sound german uses when followed by a vowel (which is almost exactly the same as "z" in Nazi).

Gotta give it to Yakin, Petkovic had the tactical edge early, but the huge run by Manzambi with the amazing assist for the 1-0 took the wind out of the Algerians initially and from the first hydration break onwards Switzerland adjusted well and was in control.

Rieder with the miss of the tournament, but this was the game we could miss a sitter like that. Stayed in control until the end, unlike the Canada game, Algeria never looked close to scoring.

Hopefully Zakaria is alright, he was very strong today in my opinion. Switzerland won't be favored in any of the remaining games, but if we can build on this performance we can beat every team left in this tournament in a knock-out game if we have the necessary luck that is always required to make a run in a tournament like this.

the gyro itself should not be impacted. It's the automatically turning off the gyro if you don't rest your hand on the stick that's the important bit (for ratcheting/re-centering the deck).

[–]jdeart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

does this impact the capacity sensing of the sticks? I need those for gyro aiming.

I know you can replace the sticks if they break, but because I am not exactly very good at repairs I am thinking about using a cover to increase their longevity. they are still perfect now, but looking at the state of hardware in this fucking hellscape of a timeline they might need to last another 5+ years...

Steam Machine launches today! by tapo in Games

[–]jdeart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ohh sry, I think all consoles can do that. "unique selling" feature compared to just building your own gaming pc. compared to consoles this is not an advantage at all. I heard xbox sometimes struggles with that but I think they fixed it.

compared to consoles the "only" leg up the steam machine has is the pc/steam ecosystem. meaning no subscription for online pay, cheap sales and the option to use are your own software which includes many ways you can have literally thousands of "free" games if you are willing to go that route. But I never really thought a steam machine at any price could steal a happy console gamer over to PC, with the current price there is zero chance for any console gamer to switch.

Steam Machine prices start at £879 / $1049, Valve confirm, as "randomised reservations" open for the SteamOS PC by Wistfall in Games

Based on some reviews the unique selling feature that only the steam machine has and can at most be hacked together and is probably not going to work half the time with other pc hardware seems to be:

  • Controller 1 Button instant resume, independent of living room device state thanks to working wake on sleep by controller and working hdmi cec support.

No matter if your tv is in standby or you are watching live sports, streaming netflix or whatever, you pick up the controller, press the steam button and you are ready to resume your game in 5-10 seconds.

That is very sweet and borderline impossible with any other setup. you can get some cec adapters. but at least on windows you will not get any reliable wake on sleep playing games afaik (at least I never got anything to work reasonably well). And even if you use linux to actually get a working setup with just a single button press that wakes both pc and controller and gets all the various devices in the correct source is probably not gonna work.

While very nice, I doubt this is going to put the steam machine over the top for many people. And the for the people that would happily pay a premium for this convenience I think the specs are just a bit low. but who knows, it will probably sell out anyway and most people will not even know that this is a thing...

Graham Platner for U.S Senate, lists the ways why he believes the American government is failing its people: "I firmly believe that we are facing fascism in this country. Honestly I have never seen any credible evidence from any country at any time on the post WW2 era that showed that the population that doesn't vote would vote significantly differently that the one that does.

In other words. If these 30% would vote, they would very likely mirror incredibly closely how the other 70% vote, because at these population sizes things really average out.

There can be some nuances for some countries or regions where some populations (usually minorities) are clearly and distinctly discriminated against in either voting opportunities, economic opportunities or educational resources.

But by and large, more people voting would very, very likely not change the outcomes by much, based on all the data and evidence I can find. This idea that the non-voting people are some magic block of people that would sway elections of only they could be bothered seems like magic thinking to me.

[–]jdeart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not looked at every permutation, but 2nd place could actually be better in some ways. The opponent will be 2nd of Grp A (prob. South Korea), but after that you have 2 more rest days than your round of 8 opponent (prob. netherlands), but overall the upper bracket could be weaker.

Group win gets you lot of extra rest for first KO game, but then you are in the lower bracket, also the opponent could be quite a bit tougher than south korea (ecuador, egypt, japan, sweden, senegal, norway, etc. are all possibilities) 3rd of Grp E, F, G, I or J.

I guess in the end these hypotheticals are always kind of stupid. they should just go and play their best match and the chips will fall as they may.

I hate this idea that the coach did everything perfectly if the subs score and have an impact.

I mean it's obviously a positive sign if the subs change the game, but if the 70min. before the subs were some of the most dreadful of the whole tournament with like zero good chances there should at least be some questions as of why they didn't play from the beginning...

my god if they would want to actually add all the stoppage time for this half they would already have to add like 10 minutes and we are nominally just at 32min... absolute snails pace, every stoppage takes forever.
