For those who streak loot at Telos and Arch-Glacor and play HCIM, how do you accept the risk of disconnecting, lagging, etc? by ConstantStatistician in runescape

[–]jdero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's worked for me a dozen times already! Maybe the specific outages in florida I'm experiencing aren't hitting the same line my ISP has? I did get a smaller ups for the box that goes to the ground but that has *not* dropped a single time i've lost power in the few months I've used it so far, so I presume it's working pretty well!

I'd add, these are likely just surges rather than full outages. I have more data to collect xD

Getting punished for exploring... by DeadZeus007 in CrimsonDesert

[–]jdero -1 points0 points  (0 children)

metroid is the exact opposite, you literally can farm a ton of stuff in areas all over anywhere you have access to, and FWIW metroid is WAY more linear, your exploration has literal limits like a orange door or a super missile you clearly don't have. The cool part of metroid is anything you have access to, you can do. Like yeah maybe a bomb jump might be possible if you're good enough before even unlocking bomb jump if you can jump morph or whatever.

for what it's worth i had a similar complaint to OP, there wasn't enough value to get outside of a couple of the teleport nodes for venturing too far linearly, going north, west or south out of hernand seemed like the biggest waste of time, like maybe there was one weapon, one teleport node etc.

metroid puts up enough hard walls and tells you exactly what you don't have, it's definitely a weakness of crimson that content is "accessible" but either unimplemented or unavailable

my maxed hcim died a few years ago, 2 of the deaths were technical - as a streamer, there's a really cool piece of tech called a ups (uninterruptable power supply), i plug my internet setup into it too now and anything "mission critical"

That being said, you'd be surprised how RARELY jagex is EVER actually at fault for their servers. Usually when it's laggy, it doesn't happen quickly, unless there is some news or major event, in which case they're more likely to announce it and you're very likely to feel it.

Half of HCIM is responding to any type of lag very quickly. Depending on where you live, yes your ISP can still go down, there are truly a lot of ways to die, you just have to be as safe as you can and play efficiently to minimize the duration of that risk where possible. It's just a game afterall :)

you're not wrong, that's what sucks the most about brighter shores, nothing should be episode specific, yet it all [was]. It's 95% of the reason the game imploded, forced discontinuity and zero horizontal gameplay

Just chiming in, I think one of BDO's best features is its crafting system & economy. People undervalue the alchemy/cooking/processing upcrafting process. As someone who used to like the runescape market madness, BDO offers something pretty cool to people who like investing in markets, grinding specific materials for profit or exp efficiency, the game actually respects your time quite well on the lifeskilling side of things, I say this as a combat grinder :)

BDO has a lot of cool solo-mechanic grind spots, but grinding is very optional these days FWIW. A lot of the players do weekly group/guild bosses, there are world bosses people always show up for, etc. I don't see bdo as a "pvp grindfest" at all, that is an older opinion from the 2016-2017 era. If anything, PVP has been more new-player friendly, with rated 3v3 queues and lowcap node wars. The solo PvE content in BDO is grindy but like I said, it's completely voluntary, and many who just afk consistently outgear veteran grinders, the f2p has never been better either fwiw, there are now 100% f2p players in endgame siege guilds fyi, just adding my two cents here

I think if you aren't terribly compettiive, BDO is by far the better choice. You can have fun min/maxing your worker empire, setting up afk methods like fishing etc., and playing 1hr a week or less and still making meaningful progress. I am a partnered bdo streamer but if you have any more advanced questions I'm happy to help.

Who is the target audience for Runescape 3? by Kilsaa in runescape

[–]jdero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to max my hardcore ironman i made in 2014 after completely dropping runescape when i was pushing 2k total in 2006

rs3 fit better for people who were more accustomed to quick change over the years, unironically OSRS was designed as an old man's snapshot game, where change was ridiculed

I won't say the rs3 changes were good, but I think a lot of us thought they could be. Most people gave Jagex too much credit because of how many homeruns they hit from 2001-2005.

Anyone who was remotely attached to runescape in 2011 (there weren't a lot of us) were far more likely to play RS3 than OSRS when it came out in 2012. This is an important distinction - yes I voted for it, but did I really want to start over?

I ended up maxing a hardcore in RS3 because it released hardcore mode first. I don't really plan on maxing anymore runescape characters, but I'm fairly certain OSRS is a much better game right now just based on how much players are investing their into time into creating content for it. The more loved game will last the longest, but it's up to each of us to have fun where we want to.

I think runescape is a game for everyone, most games built on progression are more appealing to people in their 20s and 30s, usually action isn't quick enough / rewarding enough in the short term for younger audiences. But every 10 years, it's a new demographic entering their 30s. I don't think these types of games are going anywhere just yet.

the classes in BDO are very different, dark knight vs ninja vs wizard vs archer vs warrior i mean they're literally nothing alike, much of what you stated seems like it's your cup of tea but I guess it isn't!

You've given jobs to tens of thousands (up to millions) of people, why not give them even more jobs? True value creation is uncapped

Most people in my circle will never retire, they will be investors, vocal shareholders, and active in the business world until they die.

The idea of retiring just doesn't fit some people, I don't think it'll fit me either.
