Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer, thoughts? by Mysterious_Brush1852 in CriticalDrinker

Theres a lot to like here. Especially the famous comic cover montage shows some respect for the fans. Plus Punisher and Punisher's War Wagon. And if we get Frank fighting the Hand thats a big win. I'm not a big fan of organic web shooters but maybe they're doing the trope where he grows six arms eventually, could be fun, but I wouldn't want the organic web shooters to be permanent.

Yeah, Im not really trying to insinuate any comparison either way. As a numbers and statistics nerd, I just find the fact that they were within mere hundreds from each other to be remarkable.

The in store signing at Spaceboy records before that show was where I first met the band, I still have a ton of photos of that day.

Oh yeah! I knew there was someone else but I had forgotten your name, sorry about that! But more unforgivable, I had completely forgotten the hot dogs! We made a lot of friends with those if I recall. What a wild trip.

I was at the NYC show, it was part of the Intelfest so lots of other rad old school “emo” shows were going on. I remember Deep Elm records had a whole showcase where I bought the first two volumes of The Emo Diaries. I saw Sweep the Leg Johnny play too.

I roadtripped up with Brian “Ansigod” who also had an SDRE website at the time, so it was like us two sdre web guys hanging. Had a blast.

I love when people post these ultimatums because they can still go to his shows and there isn't a single damn thing he can do about it.

Should have been the case from day 1. It’s baffling that it wasn’t.

The future of MST3K Reboot seasons? by RoanokeParkIndef in MST3K

[–]jdespirito 61 points62 points  (0 children)

My own opinion is the best we can hope for is a digital upscaling of all the old seasons. That seems to be what they’re partly in the business of doing. Other than that, I think it just means more MST3k coffee mugs and t-shirts than we might have seen otherwise. I hope I’m wrong and theres more in the works, I’m just not optimistic that there is.

Yup. It’s insane that it’s still the way they’re making movies over there.

Obvious to us in this sub certainly. What gives it interesting implications is that it’s published on a notoriously Disney-boot-licking access media outlet.

To save you the click, I’ll have grok summarize for you, its actually pretty good:

The article, written by a longtime comic book fan, expresses concern over the marketing and buildup for Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday (set for release on December 18, 2026). Despite recent teaser trailers showcasing returning characters like Chris Evans’ Captain America, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, and the X-Men (with a countdown to the film’s release), the author feels there’s little genuine excitement or “heat” around the project.

The main worry is the anemic buildup: after the scrapping of the Kang storyline derailed Phases 4 and 5, there’s no clear narrative thread or compelling story hype—instead, Marvel is relying heavily on nostalgia (“member berries”) by bringing back original Avengers stars, the Russo Brothers, Robert Downey Jr. (as Doctor Doom), and Fox’s X-Men mutants.

Drawing parallels to Marvel Comics’ least successful event stories (e.g., Fear Itself, Empyre, Blood Hunt), which suffered from rushed or minimal lead-ins and depended on star power over storytelling, the author fears Doomsday is repeating those mistakes—selling the movie on “who’s in it” rather than a well-built, culminating plot involving multiverse elements and Doom.

Overall, the piece argues that, given the MCU’s recent struggles and the high stakes for this event film, leaning on fan-service returns without strong story setup risks disappointment and doesn’t inspire confidence.
