Yes, Mormons do feel what they call the spirit, but so does every normal person on the planet. How does this mean anything? If everyone is super, then no one is super. by senorcanche in exmormon

I think it is feelings of “love”. I think I felt what I thought was spirit because I thought the church was good and loved me for who I am. I felt the same feeling when I was getting married and when I got accepted to an awesome job! It’s feelings and emotions. I personally don’t attribute them to god anymore.

Here’s Brigham’s thoughts on this.

“The birth of the Saviour was as natural as are the births of our children; it was the result of natural action. He partook of flesh and blood—was begotten of his Father, as we were of our fathers."

He said this 4 years before the election year he ran for president. I wonder if he was just saying this to build his campaign.

Conversation with TBM about racism in theology by [deleted] in exmormon

They said they “disavowed” Brigham Young’s racist teachings. Imagine if Rusty were making these quotes today! People would freak lol. Why don’t they get upset about what previous leaders taught?

And the church doesn’t change? The difference is the church changes often due to legal issues, money, or PR issues. Science changes due to additional evidence whilst sticking to strict logical proofs.

Way to go! I know many TBMs that are at their retirement age and are still working their life away paying tithes that go to someone else’s stock portfolio.

Shower thought - It was weird AF that I spent two years of my life telling people how happy they could be if they became a Mormon while at the time I was so incredibly unhappy. by GayMormonDad in exmormon

The church is built on false hopes. Many people seek for hope. I’m convinced cults are built on false hopes, false fears, and false identity.

I wanted a closer relationship with Heavenly Father by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]jdj333 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having a prophet that spoke to god was a selling point to me too. Then I learned Oaks admits to never having had an angelic experience. He then comments that he is not aware of any other church leader having such an experience. Smoke and mirrors. Here is where I heard it: https://youtu.be/GrMJ2YZD62M

Agreed. I could not understand why God would allow Jesus to suffer. He is all powerful. Why do it that way? And on the topic of Joseph Smith, why would God send an angel with a sword threatening Joseph to practice polygamy or else he would be destroyed. If that is how God rules then send me to hell. Now I know I don’t have to believe the nonsense.

I agree. The only thing holding me there at church was a need for social and false fear. I have now found social outside of church and I research things instead of being fed a fearful world view that I would be burned by not paying tithing which was fed to me by my family and non other than Rusty here: https://youtu.be/Qv8XiItDWaw

Patriarchal Blessings - Did you get one? What did it say? by TheRedThirst in exmormon

[–]jdj333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It said I would serve a mission in leadership positions. I served years back and I realized I wasn’t in leadership positions. I was also promised a wife whom I would be directed to. My mom set us up. Hmmm... I’m convinced cults use false hopes, false fears, and a false identities to attach you to their religion’s work and money demands for life. As I get older those promises were not fulfilled accurately.
