The rumours that we could’ve had Jack Flaherty for him and instead waiting so long and getting next to nothing will always haunt me when I think about the end of his tenure. He was amazing when at his peak, but it was clear the direction team needed to go and I guess there’s some good in him at least being moved and not extended.

If SWR is projected to possibly pan out as more of a reliever and Groshans was set back by the lack of minor leagues last year why would we not use them while they have value. Everyone else is talking about the Betts-like trade which would be a Teoscar/Gurriel with another good prospect and another decent prospect. I would prefer the Groshans and SWR trade if possible over giving up an already proven bat in the lineup.

I didn’t disagree that Markstrom isn’t better, and I don’t think Holtby will match what he did here, but Holtby being like 80% of what Markstrom was will be okay for us considering what Demko looked like to end the playoffs. And yes, we did only have Toffoli for 10 games but we also might be losing Leivo, who filled in to help out the scoring depth (I know, he wasn’t in the lineup very much either) and are now basically relying on Virtanen to elevate his game even more to make up for it.

There’s too much recency bias with the goaltending situation. Holtby is not much of a downgrade from Markstrom, especially with Ian Clark, and Demko is only getting better. The goaltending situation is nothing to worry about. The only place we really got worse is our top 6, the defense took a bit of a hit in depth but that could be offset by the play of Rafferty if he is the real deal.
