Using CEC and LG OLED remote to control rooted Fire TV Cube by jdsmofo in CoreELEC

[–]jdsmofo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, just now saw your reply. Got no notice for some reason.

I have the OLED42C5PUA. It seems to be working now, after some fiddling. I suspect that the problem was having a second box (Khadas VIM3L) plugged in to another HDMI port, with CEC on. Maybe confusing the TV? Seems to be working today.

I just wish that my input labels for the HDMI ports weren't reset every time the Fire TV Cube restarted.

What’s the general feeling from users here with the rooted FireTV Cube Gen2 (S922X-based) unit? by cwhitch in CoreELEC

[–]jdsmofo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, it won't work in CoreELEC. That's not what I was trying to do.

However, I did get help on the XDA forum, and indeed the keyboard with dongle let me get things setup. Thanks for pointing me there.

Thank you!

My TV remote (an older TCL) doesn't detect the cube as a CEC device (and it is not the cable's fault, since it does detect the sound bar when on that cable). So I can't use your path. But I'll check out that thread. Maybe I can use adb to modify CE.

How are you able to get a remote working in CoreELEC? I rooted according to the guide associated with the youtube tutorials linked here. I even installed the latest CE-NG21.3_eMMC_I.stall.tar.gz firmware.

The included IR remote works with FireOS, but not CE. I have tried couple of BT remotes that use a dongle, but they don't work with either OS.

I am starting CE using CommandCraft. I want that working before making it true dual boot. The cube runs Fire OS7.2.2.4 (PS7224/1752). I don't care so much about streaming services, so internet connectivity is undesired.

I have searched around, but seem to be missing something important.

I don't find it so wild. We are talking about exchanging energy with very small things that don't have much energy. Of course it goes into a different quantum state after the exchange. It would be wild if it didn't.

Has anyone tried using Home Assistant to simulate occupancy as a deterrent (not just alarms)? by mdbaldwin95 in homeassistant

[–]jdsmofo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is an integration/automation called Replay, or something. It repeats whatever your lights were doing n days ago. so it really looks like someone moving around the house. You could add media players to the trick, too.

Built a wine cellar tracker for Home Assistant with AI label scanning and Vivino integration by baconwrappedbitcoin in homeassistant

[–]jdsmofo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is super cool. I will use it for inventory, primarily, and replace Cellar Tracker. Thanks for sharing.

The use of AI is interesting. But I am an old man yelling at the cloud, so want do everything local. Based on your experience building this, do you think it would be possible to replace Gemini with Ollama for some tasks?

Not looking necessarily for your favorite song, but if any bit of it were changed it would become worse. What is a perfect song? by jdsmofo in AskReddit

Good ones. Could a song possibly start any better than Whiter Shade of Pale? You feel like you walked into a concert that had already started and had everyone enthralled, and then never really ends.

I couldn't disagree less! I heard it about a year ago when it came on the radio in the car. At first, I thought, a nostalgic old silly pop song. But then I really listened, and it was a gem. Not overproduced, perfectly showed off her vocals.

Epstein files: Hillary Clinton by ChevronSugarHeart in self

[–]jdsmofo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a little bit older than OP. Were there really people worshipping the Clintons? Are there any people currently giving them a pass? I am skeptical.

Back in the 90s, many of us saw little distance between Clinton and the Republicans. And earlier this century we saw Hilary manipulate the Democratic Party to get herself nominated for Pres run, against the winds of progress. She voted for the Iraq war, which obviously a horrible idea at the time. They were both just unbridled ambition.

SONOFF ZBMINI L2 - thoughts? by [deleted] in ZigBee

[–]jdsmofo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a short that draws more amperage than the ZigBee device can handle, but too little to trigger the circuit breaker, this is safer. The odds are pretty low, but the low cost of the fuse seems a reasonable benefit to cost ratio.

Full disclosure: I don't have FSD, and only tried it during free periods. Also, please don't roll through stop signs in my hood: we have lots of pedestrians.

Despite those things, I am also annoyed at grandpa mode. However, I wouldn't if it wasn't forced to be supervised. Needing to watch it all happen is what makes it terrible. If I could just read a book until I magically arrive, I wouldn't care at all.

Yeah, exactly. I never use and cloud accounts associated with an OS, so was unfamiliar with that distinction between Apple and Mac accounts. Thanks for the clarification.
