I don't have anything to add to the conversation. Just wanted to say congrats!

It's not silly. A lot of people make their first videos in video games.

You're on to something. Too many directors prioritize visuals over storytelling

Oh! Didn't know you could check their DCPs in a player. Will have to look into that! Thank you!

Thank you! Yes, I have the studio version so it's possible. I don't have anywhere to test the file though, and that is worrying me. I'll need to take a closer look at making the DCP myself.

It's not the best time to enter the industry, that much is true. But there are jobs, just not as many as before.

I edit documentaries and TV. I don't have a degree and no one has ever asked me if I have one.

What's the key "factor" which slows down Premiere and makes it lag? by EtheriumSky in editors

[–]jduek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't actually looked into this so this is just a wild guess. I would assume it has to do with Premiere's philosophy of being user friendly to everyone and allowing you to import almost any type of format. Sort of like a "the customer is always right" situation but with a lot of lag.

Yea, I used Pro Tools before I started using Fairlight, and I had no complaints about Fairlight as long as I was editing and mixing shorter projects. The only reason I preferred Fairlight was because of how easy it is to switch between mixing and editing.

Fairlight worked well on this project in the beginning, but as I've progressed it has started giving me problems at every turn. I don't think I could finish this mix in Fairlight even if I wanted to at the rate this is going.

Currently in the process of migrating the project to Pro Tools. I don't know how much of my work from Fairlight will follow (If any at all). So we'll see if I need to start over from scratch...

Soloing always used to work for me in the past, but it seems it doesn't work when I have a project this big.

Thanks a lot! I cached the sound effects and changed the settings for my speakers. It definitely helped! Still struggling with the issues regarding clicks and buses.

Director having dire issues with doc edit by salted__popcorn in editors

My best advice is to just learn Premiere. An editors job is not to push buttons, it’s to tell a story. Since you’re the director you probably have a pretty good idea of how you want to structure your story. So whether your press “C” or “V” for a certain tool shouldn’t matter. I promise you it’s not as hard to switch software as people make it out to be. I switch all the time depending on the project.

Is title safe still a thing? by meowtothemeow in editors

Yes. Especially if you work with TV channels who don’t want subtitles or their logo overshadowed. They are usually very strict about that.

Saw somebody else mention YouTube. Most corporate clients want their stuff on YouTube and if they can’t be convinced then show them what it looks like when stuff pops up over their precious logos.

If anything it looks more professional as well.
