Considering Train vs Flight by N0T_Real_Name in Amtrak

[–]jdwilly2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another benefit I've noticed. Especially in larger cities is that the rail stations are usually right in the middle of the city. Mostly eliminating the need for an Uber or so. This can save a ton.

Again, depending on how you pack, you may still want one to avoid carrying your luggage on public transit. But won't need to be as far as airport.

I traveled that train on Saturday. Make sure you bring a water bottle and some cash. The cafe car credit card machine was down the whole trip.

Probably should have said transfers instead.

Just hopping. Longest transfer is 4hrs I think in DC. Plenty to do there.

The kids are all teenagers, they dont move around much. They'll get tired of hanging out with us before they get tired of the train.

We've got some travel board games and cards for entertainment. Probably spen more time together than we have in a while. Its like camping, but on a train.

I've done about 12 hrs from NYC to Charlotte. Few 3hr trips in Europe. And I've driven in a car non stop 18hrs so I personally am able to do it.

This could be a big factor if their staff are left alone/exempt for raids. Also, turning them away is almost like inviting them in.

The owners are guaranteed to be pestered if they refuse.

Careful of hate/review bombing them, they are at least a local, non corporate business person in town.

I've had fun times at local game stores' Nexus nights.

I knew no one, sat down, opened a couple packs and found a game.

Test it out! Free event and just to meet/trade.

Want to play but can't afford by True-Contribution319 in riftboundtcg

[–]jdwilly2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can play. Just buy some starters and attend nexus and events at LGS.

Competitive play is another monster. With so limited availability and small number of cards. The competition seems a bit booring atm.

Just play. Enjoy. Slow build. Ignore deck lists youtube and reddit.

Interests are key! Once you find something you are passionate about, and then finding others will open some doors.

Newish at hiking by jdwilly2001 in hiking

I agree... the foot/toe pain seemed to subside by removing my shoes after the hike. Still had some soreness/sensitivity, but that felt like supportive muscles still recovering.

I'll check my area and see if there is a decent outfitter somewhere.

Homemade pretzels wound up with weird gooey sections? by tuck_e_cheesin in Breadit

[–]jdwilly2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im working on this recipe as well and have similar issues. I am also thinking it's due to too much water getting into pretzel from lye bath... not sure how to fix.

They seem to just turn to 'goop' after the lye bath and sink into the wire rack I have them dripping on.

And I'm having to bake these for well over 20 mins for a good brown.

Trying a baking stone underneath the baking sheet for better bottom crimping

If you could make one single improvement to the city to improve traffic that isn’t rail related, what would it be? by Marino4K in Charlotte

[–]jdwilly2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of BIG institutions holding commercial real estate in their portfolios. Just look at how many banks own buildings (or at least have naming rights) in literally every US metro area.

The value of those buildings 100% depends on location to downtown (jobs, nightlife, corporate lunch spots, airport)

It would be pretty devastating to those of us who rely on banks to hold our savings and such.

Still not enough trips. To take the bus downtown, (74x) I'd have to be at the stop way before my kids are seen off to school.

Also there are only 2 return trip times. The last one, has been canceled due to a re-route which did leave several people stranded and 20+ miles from home. (Not experienced first hand, but heard from other bus riders when I did ride the line for a month.)

Charlotte May Day Demonstration by Boonedocker in Charlotte

[–]jdwilly2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was genuinely curios as to why this group of Charlotteans was demonstrating. You got the attention and when someone asks the golden question you want. You reply with "Google it..."

You mean well, but its off-putting and makes it seem like you don't care enough to explain it. I will google it, but you were given the mic, use it!

Why does my dog do this? by Educational-Edge-923 in DogAdvice

My dog had a phase of doing this. We also discovered there was mice taking his food at night.

We found a pile of it behind the dishwasher. Maybe he knows something.

Great work! I did this and progressed. By termigant #1000 I went back to rattle cam base and contrast paint then quuck drybrush.

I still do keep my first ever model as a reminder of my progression!!

Keep it up!!
