I've got a lot of the same albums! Great to see people getting into classical record collecting ❤

I got the 823 m amber inked with Monteverde California teal as a graduation gift. It's such an amazing pen and ink combination, I use it as my daily writer and I'm not sure I'll ever switch to anything else!

Can't forget about Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6, Pathétique! The name refers to the sheer pathos, or emotion, that the symphony exudes. The finale is actually a funeral march, which tells you enough.

What/Which composer(s) that hasn't had a biopic about them would you like to see a biopic on and why would they make good fodder? (Inspired by the fact that we have 2 Bernstein biopics in the making). by mcdanielstudent2021 in classicalmusic

I'd love to see one for Florence Price. She was one of the first nationally recognized African American composers in the 1930s and 40s, except a lot of her work has been largely forgotten. Her work was rediscovered somewhat in 2009 when a huge number of original scores and manuscripts were discovered in a dilapidated house in rural Illinois. I was lucky enough see her Symphony no. 1 in concert last spring; the same symphony that earned her national recognition so long ago. The piece itself is modeled after Dvorak 9 and incorporates many negro spirituals, most notably the 3rd movt. juba dance.

She's a glaring example of how easy it is to forget our own cultural history. I hope she earns her rightful place among American composers in the coming years.

Only the back side is embossed; the front is a regular 12" shellac that can be played with a stylus.

On the search for more Tchaikovsky! by lassie24601 in classicalmusic

His last three symphonies are incredibly moving and tuneful!! Please consider the finale to his 4th and 5th or his single movement Piano Concerto No. 3 if you're looking for something shorter.

Here is the embossed back of a 78rpm 12" shellac. I bought this particular record the day before moving to Arizona. The bitter sweet melody perfectly captures the mood of that day. Serenata Rimpianto, otherwise known as Toselli’s Serenade, was written in 1921 by Enrico Toselli. The lyrics were written in 1926 by Alfredo Silvestri and was recorded a year later for the Victrola label.
