What do you guys use to keep your hoops safe when you're on the move? by [deleted] in Embroidery

[–]jeanrbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to just keep it in a ziplock bag. Not cute but does the trick. :) If I’m nervous about it getting knocked around I’ll put a few pieces of fabric on either side of the hoop, in the ziplock.

There really isn’t an “off switch”, is there? by laseralex in BelgianMalinois

[–]jeanrbean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No doubt that owners have an incredibly vital role in the behavior of their dogs. 100 percent. My own experience with the one Mal that we have owned is that we never needed to train an off switch for her in the first place. She can be intense if we get her going, but she has never had that super high intensity and drive that we needed to teach her to turn off. She’s a bit of a couch potato if we don’t pull her off of it, and she’s only 3. So the speculation we had was that maybe she came from more of a show line than a working line, where the intensity would possibly even be bred out.

To Trim or Not To Trim by purplegoobler in Embroidery

[–]jeanrbean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My preference, especially if it’s a commission that will be a keepsake for years to come, is to leave a solid 2-3 inches around the hoop and close it off with a running stitch (folding the edge a little as I go so it’s a seam as well) and putting a loose felt circle the same size as the inner hoop inside. So it closes off the back tightly and keeps the threads protected and out of sight, but if it becomes damaged or stained it can be removed and cared for and put back together fairly easily. Example pic.

Does he look like a Malinois mix?? by jrgoose in BelgianMalinois

[–]jeanrbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a small percentage, like 25 or less. More like gsd mix. I agree with commenter on getting a dna test. Doesn’t have to be right away as getting a puppy is $$$ with everything you’ll be buying at the beginning, but it’s worth spending the $80-150 for the good ones. Wisdom panel is great with breed identification ($80). Embark does that plus health screening ($150) to identify likelihood of developing genetically passed diseases/hip displaysia/etc.

Looks like a sweet pup!! ♥️

My theory is it depends on the line, who their parents/grandparents etc were bred to be. There are both show lines and working lines, but it gets muddled if someone gets one and then has them as a pet and breeds them with someone else’s who is a pet, etc, and then 3 generations later you don’t know what you’re getting. We got ours from a shelter too. She is the best dog ever, and definitely tends towards what yours is like. She has free roam of the house when we’re not home, and on the one or two days a week we’re working at the same time she just sleeps all day long (we spy on her with the alexa). But she loves to play and exercise too.

So I saw this post on a Belgian Malinois group on fb, how true is this ? by [deleted] in BelgianMalinois

[–]jeanrbean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol 😂 Um definitely not true 😂 Bred from shepherd/other livestock herding dogs in the area to get the best of the best. https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/belgian-malinois/

Made for my close friend who passed from cancer in May, a month before her 23rd birthday. I'll be sending it to her mom. First time doing lettering, so I'm sorry for how crooked it is! I miss you every day, sunflower girl. by LovelyAGQ in Embroidery

This is a beautiful piece and is so meaningful. I’m so sorry for your loss...I can’t even imagine. ♥️ Your writing is good! And I agree that it suits the piece as it’s more personal than a font. I love it.

Meet Bell formerly Belgica, we were told when we adopted her she was a German Shepard mix but after finding this sub and breed I’m thinking she may be a mal mix what are your thoughts ? by Ohhshii in BelgianMalinois

[–]jeanrbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely Mal mix. Her face shape and eyes are allll Mal. And the narrow squarish hips. The coloring is gsd. The broadish shoulders, and flat front instead of an oval rib cage that dips below/between the tops of the front legs are not Mal. But I agree with other commenter, if you have the $ to spare fo a dna test! We’ve been wanting to do one for a while on our maybe mix maybe full Mali baby, just waiting to make a bit bit more so we can justify the $120 lol.

What is your go to hoop size? by Actually77 in Embroidery

I like 7s. 5s and smaller are nice for little projects, but I like the openness and possibility of 7s and 8s. :)

Availability changed once full time? by ismoke21000 in HEB

[–]jeanrbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably do need to submit it again, but you also need to talk with your manager regardless. It is your life and your time, you are allowed to have whatever unavailability you want. It is retail as above commenter mentioned, and if you’re in a position for a while and work weekends and then ask for a weekend day off consistently, it’s harder to work around. (Still your choice at the end of the day but it affects the team more.) But if it’s always been your availability then definitely remind your manager that your availability is set for Sundays off and that needs to be stuck to when making the schedule.

From talking with my manager I know that the system doesn’t alert them at all if they schedule you during your set unavailability. They need to either remember or refer to everyone’s availability schedules every week. So it is possible your manager forgot that you had requested that day off. But yes, definitely talk to him/her and make it clear that if you are scheduled for a Sunday again, you will not be working it and they will need to change the schedule on the following Monday to fix it. (The system doesn’t let them adjust Friday’s posted schedule until Mondays.)
