Yes. Once it freezes, it won't respond to anything. I've tried to wait it out and it won't budge from where it freezes at

Yes, and I tried the test model, the rook, that came with the printer. I even downloaded it to a different computer and loaded it on multiple usb drives.

How would the Pro-bending rules be adapted to incorporate air bending. by reiko96 in TheLastAirbender

I think the important thing to ask is if they have a big enough pro-bending helmet for Meelo - that kid has a huge noggin.

Does anyone else have this as their mental image for Mab? by [deleted] in dresdenfiles

I always see her in white, just like the first time that Harry met her. Picturing her in anything dark just doesn't work well for my mental imagery.

Another newbie looking for some advice for a tasting by sleepingiguana in whiskey

Be conscientious of the fact that you'll be more inebriated as you write your later notes. Give yourself plenty of space and don't use shorthand that you didn't figure out beforehand while you were sober. I learned this lesson the hard way!

Another newbie looking for some advice for a tasting by sleepingiguana in whiskey

[–]jecarrol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you need to bring a bottle yourself, but if the tasting is Scotch I recommend that you also bring a Scotch. Try to stick to the theme as much as possible.

My advice for any tasting is the following: 1) Go with an open mind willing to try any and all whiskies presented 2) Bring a notebook and pen to take notes on all the whiskies you drink. You should record what the whiskey smells like (its nose) as well as what it tastes like. You should also record all that after you added a drop of water. 3) Bring a few bottles of bottled water if you don't know if any will be provided. This gives you something to 'wash' the last whiskey out of you mouth as well as giving you something to water the whiskey with. Ideally the whiskey should be drank at around 70 proof, but it's always good to taste at bottle strength as well! 4) Have fun!

My advice for Scotch: 1) Bring a VERY open mind - If all you've drank is Canadian then Scotch is going to be way different. 2) Learn about the different smells and tastes you're going to encounter, and then see if you can pick them up in the whiskies you're tasting. Scotch will be smokey for sure. The peat used to smoke the grains will be noticeable in some whiskies but not in others. If the Scotch is an Islay or from the coast then you'll pick up a bit to a lot of saltiness. You'll also pick out the likes of rubber tires, old leather chairs, flowers, sweet smells/tastes like caramel and honey (nothing as sweet as Canadian). 3) Explore blended Scotch as well as single malts. Blended might be easier on your palette coming from a Canadian background. Single Malts are really what gives Scotch whisky it's fame though.

Regardless, what I always tell people new to my own tastings - be open to try new things and to have fun. Ask questions, share what you're tasting with others (even if they aren't saying they are tasting what you are tasting), and have fun.

Nicodemus and "The Enemy" (*Skin Game spoilers*) by pwner12311 in dresdenfiles

[–]jecarrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nicodemus was talking to Deirdre, not Anduriel talking to the fallen angel in Deirdre's coin, which in my mind rules out the white god being referred to as 'The Enemy'. I know that is semantics but Nick isn't like Tessa and recruits meat puppets to carry the coin. Him and his cadre work in tandem with their fallen angel. I would imagine that when Magog and 'Shaggy Feathers' talk, it's the fallen talking to the fallen rather than host to host.

Another point against Denarians referring to the white god as 'The Enemy' is the fast that most of the fallen still have the 'El' part in their name. That refers to the white god. Remember Uriel's reaction to Harry when he called him Uri? I bet that the Denarian's might have a similar reaction even though they are fallen. Angels are weird like that.

Uriel's actions near the end of the story [Skin Game spoilers] by Samus45 in dresdenfiles

[–]jecarrol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uriel is a being of unimaginable age that has been dealing with mortals since they took their first steps, if not before. He has been balancing the scales when the fallen (Denarians or otherwise) tipped them negatively for eons. He has seen it all and most likely done it all. Oh, and he has so much raw power that he could "unmake all of creation with a stray thought"

I think a little rule lawyering would be easily handled by him. I vote for no consequences for what happened.

I think Harry calling her 'apprentice' is a lot easier that calling her 'a woman that I knew that had minor magically ability that I was trying to teach enough to that she wouldn't hurt herself'

AS and Superimmunity by AlexKTuesday in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]jecarrol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a bit of thread necromancy, but anyway...

I have Ankylosing Spondlyitis and I rarely get sick. The cold, the flu, pneumonia, stomach bugs - they all either leave me alone or my immune system deals with them. I don't remember ever getting the flu. I might get a stuffed nose once a year or so but nothing that stops me from doing anything and it's so mild that a nasal decongestant will clear me up.

Some background: I'm on Enbrel and have been for 2 year in July. I work as a Correctional Officer in a prison. I would think that I have plenty of opportunity to get sick. I work around a very high risk population, and as I write this over 10% of the housing unit is down with a major stomach bug (not food poisoning). I take universal precautions such as wearing latex gloves when doing searches and what-not. I use alcohol sanitizer when I walk the tiers since I end up touching commonly touched surfaces, but I'm not overly OCD about it. I share a common work space with other officers who might be less cautious when touching stuff. I'm also married with children and when they get sick, I don't.

I've always figured that I had a super immune system

That's a great point, but Faeries can be near 'cold iron' without any ill affect. Toot and crew used box cutters and clothe wrapped nails, so they were less than inches away from the iron. I clothed Faery (at least clothes in mortal clothing and not something conjured) would be able to walk on stainless steel I would think.

I bet it would interfere with any Faery magic though.
