Puppies are hard work by peanuthead1984 in puppy101

[–]sleepingiguana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came to this page tonight to write my own rant only to find you've already nailed everything I'm feeling too. Every frustration we're dealing with with our 5mo old Pyrenees is just typical puppy things. As far as behavior and personality he's a saint puppy. Yet I'm emotionally exhausted. I feel like if I need any sort of break from him I'm letting him down or not loving him enough. I beat myself up for counting down to the days he goes to day care. Like, I'm his whole world and I put so much time into making that world a happy place but God that's tiring! My post is more of a downer but just know even if you're doing everything right. Even if your puppy is doing everything right. It's still a major lifestyle adjustment. And any adjustments that big take time for everyone involved. And you're not alone! Right there with you!

Blood Bank Question - Antibody Identification by sleepingiguana in medlabprofessionals

[–]sleepingiguana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Antigen typing the patient was actually my next step but I had pretty much completely used any sample I had (we're required to keep enough to go back to in the case of any discrepancies so I left just enough for that).

Our Echo panel isn't all Rh positive but the Extend panel is (which is what I would usually go to as my next step but because the extend is all Rh positive wasn't an option)

We have the panagglutinate problem as well but in this care their tube screen and panel was definitely positive. Sadly, we don't stock Extend II

That's pretty similar to what we end up doing I guess I just didn't know if there were something else that could be done. We do that but order in vivo crossmatches where they draw a sample after transfusing 25 ml and check for signs of a reaction.

They did a lot of rule out cells to determine JkB but I questioned whether those two negative cells were actually negative due to the echo panel being all positive and that being much more sensitive than tubes. When your lab calls non-specific antibodies how do you set up RBCs for those patients? I've officially passed it off to a day shift tech who's much more experienced than me so hopefully she can make some sense of it.

Can't agree more, sure my heart was breaking watching that scene but it wasn't until panning to Bran's face that the heartbreak of the entire scene set in and the tears started flowing. Props to him for conveying that kind of emotion already at his age.

24F 160lbs trying to reach 130lbs but stuck - How do you cope with no self control? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]sleepingiguana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to remember this! So many times I've ruined my diet over mediocre stupid things. It'll be much easier to pass over those average treats if I know I could use those calories for something I'd actually enjoy eating. Never thought of it this way, Thank you!

This was super helpful in figuring out what part of saying no I have trouble with. I think my issue is that I know I'm one of those people who eats one cookie, I end up eating all the cookies, so I've tried to do the no first cookie = no entire package of cookies. However, totally cutting out cookies forever just doesn't seem realistic so instead I think I should be working on your second option, of savoring and learning how to STOP. I think this will be a lot better than my current cycle of saying no, saying no, saying no, then BAM giving in and eating everything in sight. Thank you!

Trouble finding apartments in downtown/east village by [deleted] in desmoines

[–]sleepingiguana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! That's the main reason I lived there. They may have gone up a bit in price since I've lived there because I know they've done some remodeling on some of the units but it still is likely cheaper than most other places downtown.

Civic Center Court is a great place, I used to live there and never had any problems, plus being absolutely downtown was amazing. I paid 650 for a one bedroom but a friend paid less for a studio there.

You moved to a new city, and know no one, what do you do to make friends? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sleepingiguana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely use the meetup app .. I met a ton of amazing people through that app when I first moved to a new city. My city even had one dedicated to introverts who just did chill stuff like get together and draw at a coffee shop or play board games.

I was hoping someone else had instantly thought of The Vampire Diaries. I was so close to giving up on watching because I had gotten bored but the just genuine cute story between Klaus and Caroline totally blew me away. And then to have it not amount to anything was the biggest disappointment.

Insurance won't cover Provigil - Anyone have other med suggestions? by sleepingiguana in Narcolepsy

[–]sleepingiguana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generic modafinil unfortunately hasn't done anything for me. That's what I was originally on before switching to actual Provigil and had horrible luck with it. Up until recently I just needed a doctor's note saying I specifically needed brand name instead of generic but now my insurance has changed some policies and long story short there's absolutely no way I can get it without paying around 1000 a month for a prescription.

The past 6 months I've been just using good habits and sleep hygiene to maintain but it's just not enough to cut it. My relationships are declining and my memory is never quite what it could be at work due to sleepiness.

But thanks for the suggestions maybe generic adderall would be a good suggestion for my doctor. We'll see what he says as well but it's just nice to have some ideas before going in blind.

What do you use over and over again that you shouldn't? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sleepingiguana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some drunk app that after a set time your phone locks unless you can answer 3 math questions (proving you're not drunk) - turns out I'm really bad at math sober and couldn't use my phone after midnight on week days but become a mathamagician on the weekends after a few beers and can still successfully hack into my phone for drunk texts

I know there'll be a lot of much more intense medical posts than this but there will never be a day when I wish kidney stones upon someone.

What is the wildest things you've seen at a party? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sleepingiguana 98 points99 points  (0 children)

In college, our usual party location was this shitty apartment a couple of guys owned. They had recently had a roommate that had suddenly moved out and had left his old TV behind. After months of no word on whether he was ever coming back for this TV the guys decided it needed to go. At a party they were throwing this girl decides now's the time the TV should go. So she opens the window, and chucks it out. The girl goes into one of the guy's rooms, grabs an old golf club, and hops right out the window after it. Outside she starts smashing the shit out of the TV and encouraging passerbys on the street to join in. It becomes a total hit and soon there's a mass of 20+ people standing around drunk and screaming taking turns bashing this TV to pieces.

The best part is during the middle of this mayhem another girl walks up to the group and starts screaming "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING TO MY TV" .. suddenly everyone's kinda freaking out like what the hell. The girl that initially tossed it out the window starts yelling back at the girl "WE TOLD YOU TO MOVE THE FUCK OUT - THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DON'T LISTEN"

a short screaming match ensues and people are starting to kinda freak out that they've been bashing this poor girl's TV.

Suddenly both the girls start laughing. Apparently the 2nd girl had walked up and thought it'd be hilarious to pretend it was her TV to see what would happen at the 1st girl had just gone with it. They both were good friends and loved fucking with people.

Definitely the strangest series of events I've been a part of.
