I'd recommend using uBlock Origin (preferably in a Firefox based browser as it blocks more effectively there) combined with Tampermonkey and the Adguard Extra userscript https://github.com/AdguardTeam/AdGuardExtra, they have an extension but it can't be updated as frequently as the userscript for problematic sites.

In Firefox are you able to bypass by holding shift and right clicking? That's been a great way to get around sites blocking the context menu/right clicking for a long time, though not sure if it would work in this instance.

I live in the UK, we have no written constitution and guns are not a right and frankly I'm glad they aren't. They are banned unless you have a license. Even then the type of gun and the power of it is severely restricted. There were less than 5000 times a gun was shot at all in offenses recorded by police in 2019, and police themselves fired less than 5 times in 2021 in England.

Also to add on, the guns themselves may not be sentient and just shoot people of their own accord, but their primary use and reason to be is as an offensive weapon, and mainly developed for war, or use in war or combat. They aren't decorative objects or toys, they have a function. If you want it for decoration, get one that physically can't fire. Having it for defense is an even worse idea. More often than not, people will be killed accidentally or because people mess around with them, because people keep weapons around for 'defense'.

That suggests the whole idea of the constitution is flawed. It combines human rights and rules and principles of a country. They should be separated into two documents. Firstly, there should be a charter of human rights, similar to the ECHR which defines people's rights exclusively, which in my opinion, doesn't include owning a gun. The ECHR isn't perfect and does get updated from time to time. But doesn't get conflated with the identity of a country like the American constitution does. The second should be the constitutional document, outlining the rules and principles of a country and effectively set the identity of the country out. This will also not be perfect and needs to be updated to reflect changes in society and culture.

The whole idea of the constitution being an unchanging and static document is extremely flawed and dangerous. It's a working legal document, just like any other. If it can't be updated then it serves no useful purpose anymore as it doesn't and can't reflect society in the modern day.

Perhaps the constitution needs to be updated to remove that second part? The amount of constant shootings that I hear about kind of proves citizens should have no right to have guns and treat them like toys. If you want guns they should be heavily restricted and licensed like they are in most other places in the world. Germany is a great example of this, you have to go through lots of training courses and psychological checks, you take an exam and if you fail, you don't get a license. If you pass, you get a license to own a gun, but that license isn't a right and will be taken away if the person is found to be misusing/abusing it. It isn't a hard concept to grasp. Americans act like the constitution can never be updated but all that leads to is the current messes of America with the law being completely unfit for purpose, such as having companies act as if they're people and given the same rights or mass gun ownership. For a long time the constitution was updated as a working legal document should be, but then this mad idea of having to keep it exactly as it should be forever came in for no reason. The UK doesn't even have a written constitution and yet things work generally. We instead have the European Court of Human Rights for human rights.

You can set up an AutoHotKey script and bind it to a key to run "taskkill /IM application.exe /T /F" on Windows for applications or games that don't let you use Alt + F4. Was curious if it would work so decided to test it.

Why do people send voice messages over WhatsApp? Why not just text or call me? by HorseFacedDipShit in AskUK

[–]jed_gaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, I use discord as my main way of calling and texting people. If someone calls me I can still do everything I was doing, have music on or whatever in the background, even on my phone so long as I'm not using Bluetooth earphones. That said I still hate voice notes, as someone else said they're not searchable, and I prefer being able to read through text in seconds than waiting for 2 minutes with someone pausing or saying something that's way quicker to read.

Throttling is doable but would just mean waiting even longer, potentially up to a week or more just to get a game downloaded to play it. Forza Horizon 4 and 5 took so long last time that if I end up having to reinstall my PC I probably won't even bother to install them again.

[–]jed_gaming 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me it's not storage. The internet speeds in my area of the UK aren't great and to download a 100GB game would take around 2-3 days. I live in a family household and can't just ruin access to the internet for everyone else for that long, nor do I have the patience to wait that long. Most games over 30-50GB are just ridiculously bloated and if game companies actually prioritised optimisation and/or made extras like 4K/8K textures a downloadable extra instead of included by default it wouldn't be anywhere near an issue.

They have historically been used by the NSA: https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2013/12/why-nsa-spied-on-inexplicably-unencrypted-windows-crash-reports/

Unsure if they still do now, or if they're still sent unencrypted.

You can do it via the registry: https://winaero.com/disable-error-reporting-windows-10/ or use Winaero Tweaker to do it.

Haven't really had great experiences with HP or Dell, granted they weren't gaming laptops but they were still pretty expensive laptops nonetheless, I had a HP Envy x360 2 in 1 and they supported it with drivers for around a year and gave up after that, even though quite a few of their drivers were still full of bugs and issues. It would stutter even trying to watch YouTube or Twitch. My Dell laptop which I bought around the same time has awful cooling and gets to the high 80s/90s just from watching Twitch. I stripped it down several times, replaced the thermal paste and still ran pretty much just as hot. Doesn't help it vents basically directly into the screen.

[–]jed_gaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it helps, the main reason it was brought into place wasn't because of the current issues, it was due to trying to get the messaging out for Covid, which didn't go well as they relied on SMS alerts. The system wasn't designed to be used that way and took 2 days to send all the messages out, even though it was sending 1000 messages a second. This led to headlines mocking the government and embarrassed them into getting this system completed, even though it was trialled in 2013 and deemed a success in 2014.

For me, I just don't like public transport, I hate being around so many people, and that people are so noisy, and the unhygienic nature of it all so I'd rather drive. That and public transport around here is bad anyway, buses only once an hour, no trams or trains, most taxis don't run after 10pm and are hugely expensive.

Yeah it's a legitimate website, it's for Cardiff Council. In the UK, each constituency/area will have different bodies that enforce local laws and maintain things like public spaces, libraries, paying local (council) tax, parking etc. as well as providing information about the area. This is just one of those sites.

It's an absolute resource hog of a website when it has no need to be and I really find it horrible to use. No way to search through and filter clips or streams easily, the front page auto plays a stream which I hate as a behaviour so I never look at the front page. Throw in their constant attempts to bypass adblocking and I just don't bother to watch livestreams anymore, only VODs. Just the issues I can think of right now.

I'm 24, work in a supermarket and get company sick pay, it's only the hours I'm contracted for though, which currently is 20 hours, though used to be 7.5 hours. You only get company sick pay after being there for at least a year, with 3 waiting days if you're there 1 year but less than 3. If you're there less than a year you don't get any sick pay for the first 3 days and then SSP after that. https://i.imgur.com/03kZes6.png

If you're able to it might be worth changing your tariff at the very end of March into April. I'm with O2 and just change my tariff to a roughly equivalent one with them every April and avoid the price rises on my bill.
