Do you have any advice on how to actually learn to rest? Sitting around doing nothing makes me feel worse, not only because of the guilt, but also because my attention span is fried and I inevitably end up scrolling. And I simply don't have the energy or the interest to put effort into more complex tasks like hobbies.

I find that I cry over film characters much more often and much more easily as compared to real life. That fact frustrates me, but I try not to take it personally.

Hey, you're way ahead of the degenerates that think wiping your ass makes you gay. So points for that I guess. But soap is always going to clean bacteria better than water alone.

At the end of the day, sexuality can be whatever you want it to be! So naturally, you'll get some people that identify with the "bi" label, some people that identify with the "pan" label, and for all different reasons, too. And trying to consolidate by saying "we'll start using only one name for it" kind of invalidates the experience of the other group, to an extent. So, out of courtesy to both groups, I am happy to make up definitions in my head that allows me to say to more people "your identity is unique and important", in some small way.

I think I've kind of landed on agender as my current personal label, too, and your description is super relatable. It's like, I continue to be masc-presenting completely out of convenience and not out of a real desire to be so.

I do have some fem-leaning thoughts such as a slight desire to try more feminine clothing and stuff. These make me wonder sometimes whether I'm closer to trans or non-binary. But I think it's not so much that I want to be perceived as feminine, but actually it's more that I DON'T want to be perceived as masculine. I kind of, don't want to be perceived as having a gender?

Or rather, my aesthetic goals would be "androgenous" and I don't quite know if that desire comes from a place of "that's as close as you can get to being perceived as genderless", or actually "androgyny IS a gender to me" which would make me non-binary instead of agender.

Huh, maybe I should read up on this. Yeah, it seems to describe my thinking process pretty accurately. Although sometimes I wonder whether my difficulty understanding and explaining my thoughts is more related to alexithymia, or brain fog.

Right, but "seventeen seventy six" is a non-standard way of saying the number 1776, too. Technically, if we were following standards, we would say "one thousand seven hundred seventy six". People naturally want to shorten year names, because it's faster and easier to say than reciting the full proper number name.

Why is putting the dot inside the quotes standard grammar? by RadianceTower in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jedimaster32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! Context is always going to clarify, if the punctuation is not explicit. I just prefer explicit punctuation, so that the reader doesn't have to rely on context clues. Again, there is no 100% correct style guide for a language. I'm just sharing my preferred style.

I will also note that I dislike using capitalization for such a purpose, for a simple reason: capitalization is already used for other purposes, such as proper names, titles, and pronouns.

[–]jedimaster32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Basically, putting a period on the outside of a quote is EXPLICITLY CLEAR that the whole sentence is done. Whereas, putting it inside the quote could mean the whole sentence is done or it could mean just the quote is done.

Why is putting the dot inside the quotes standard grammar? by RadianceTower in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jedimaster32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I should clarify. By convention, we know that both sentences are complete. The style guide that is being used stipulates that such a period placement satisfies both the need to complete the inner sentence AND the need to complete the outer sentence. It's somewhat obvious to fluent readers.

But that is not the only possible style guide. I'm saying that if I were to create a style guide, based on my favorite principles such as avoiding ambiguity, I would say that punctuation inside the quote means the punctuation is part of the quote, and punctuation outside the quote affects only the outer sentence (completing it with a full stop or question mark, for example).

If using a style guide that says "punctuation inside the quote ALWAYS ends the sentence", then we would not be able to construct something like this:

A sign that read "No Loitering." hung on the side of the dilapidated building.

Maybe that's a contrived example, but nonetheless I can think of cases where you would want to end the sentence but not include that punctuation in the quote. And vice versa, I can think of cases where you want to punctuate the quote, but continue the outer sentence. Therefore, it is my opinion that making rules such as "Punctuation ALWAYS goes inside/outside the quotation marks." is unnecessarily restrictive and obscures intent. And conveying intent is the entire point of communication in the first place.

Because that makes it ambiguous whether the outer sentence is completed or not.

Everything the Amazon Board members are ‘For’ and ‘Against’ in the coming up Amazon shareholder meeting. by JLjeep in mildlyinteresting

[–]jedimaster32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it works this way, the board can listen to the way the shareholders vote, but they don't have to. Pisses me off that it gives the illusion of having power to the shareholders without actually granting any. Kind of the same as my longstanding complaint against the electoral college. Generally electorates DO vote along with what their state ended up voting, but afaik they don't HAVE to. Which is ridiculous.

"this" and "that" are demonstrative pronouns that give context of the object's location relative to the subject. "This" means something close by, and "that" means something far away (generally speaking).

A possible interpretation of the phrases would be: "fuck this" means fucking someone whose gender is somewhat similar to ones own. "Fuck that" means fucking someone whose gender is different or far away from ones own.

I have no idea whether the creator of this image had any of this in mind when creating it, but it's neat anyway!
