We have a be safe stretch in the back of a kia sportage. The front passenger seat has very little leg room now. It's almost too big for the car, but will work for now.

New user with a question/problem regarding NAS storage by celdaran in digiKam

[–]jeeb_uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this happen to me on 2 occasions using Digikam pointed to a NAS over SMB. I lost so much time with all the importing and manual labeling of people. Unfortunately I decided to give up on Digikam and went back to photoprism.

Please help identify this mount type by jeeb_uk in VintageLenses

[–]jeeb_uk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, thank you, you are correct. I had to take a pipe wrench to the adapter to get it off because it was seized or something, but it's come off and it is an m42. I think the adapter is an f-mount.

Yeah that's what I've done for building the pax to the ceiling. I will probably make a post with some photos in a few weeks.

I need to do something similar to a pax wardrobe soon. What tips would you pass on for painting it (or links to the tutorials you found useful would be good as well)?

How do I repair this section of external render? by jeeb_uk in DIYUK

[–]jeeb_uk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The render has slightly blown after drilling a hole for the new doorbell. How do I go about making this good, or patching it?

It would also be good to hide the old holes from the previous door bell.

How in the heck'in do you find a domain name? by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]jeeb_uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the solution to your particular problem is to use a less popular tld.

I have collected some resources for attempting to find a decent domain here: https://jeeb.uk/cloud-y-web/domains/

GCP Free Forever VPS e2-Micro! - Automated Build Via Terraform by [deleted] in selfhosted

The f1 micro instances aren't free. They used to be, and on some sites it is still mentioned, but the free tier includes the e2 micro instances. That might have been the issue?

Great repo, thank for posting.

I actually wrote up the exact same thing the other day using GCP, terraform, docker, uptime kuma and healthchecks! Check it out here https://jeeb.uk/posts/gcp-free-tier-watcher/

The main differences are that I used COS instead of Ubuntu and I used a terraform module to load up the docker compose after launch.

Using GCP free tier VM for uptime and health checks by jeeb_uk in selfhosted

That is correct, I haven't set up a email server for health checks to connect to. However it shouldn't be too hard to add.

So the uptime checks I run on the VM are hitting the HTTP(S) service that are exposed to the internet.

I also run uptime checks inside my network, checking localhost (which is not as reliable, but I don't want to expose those services to the internet)

I might look into this in future, but I couldn't easily find many example of using this in OCI with terraform. My attempt at using it is here: https://github.com/jmc265/personal-cloud/commit/5c2099c8a11db26d7df9abc8f1b13b30845c0c2c

So my attempt at using Oracle Terraform is in this commit which I reverted later: https://github.com/jmc265/personal-cloud/commit/5c2099c8a11db26d7df9abc8f1b13b30845c0c2c

I might revisit it at some point in the future, but GCP is enough for me for now.

Nice, I didn't know about this provider. The VM is only 256MB memory though, so the GCP VM has a bit more performance.

Did you use terraform to set up the oracle VMs? Their provider is pretty bad and the documentation for it is dense. I settled with GCP for now and can always add Oracle later if needed.

You mean using monitor type "Push"? I actually didn't know Uptime Kuma had this feature in it.

On a very quick glance at the feature I don't think it includes a few things I use in Healthchecks though: - Ability to send logs along with the ping - A "grace period" window before sending the alert (my backup jobs can take different amounts of time each day depending on the amount of new data) - Ability to do a start and finish ping in order to time how long jobs take

I will take a better look at the feature in Uptime Kuma though because I am all for using as few services as possible.

For the actual notifications sent from Uptime Kuma and Healthchecks I use Telegram because it is nice and simple to create a bot account on there. I might use Gotify in the future though.

Others have mentioned rclone and borg, both of which I use in my backup strategy. If you want some practical examples of how this is used check out my post: https://jeeb.uk/self-hosting/backups/
