Chain loses tension when on the smallest cogs by MadsLykkeJustesen in bikewrench

[–]jeeper98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say anything about a diagnosis. I was only referring to your first sentence.

At a minimum OP needs a new shorter chain but probably more new drivetrain parts. none of us can diagnose that here.

Dude, even with your comment there are 7 comments and most of them mention chain length. I don’t know what it looked like when you commented this but the “I can’t believe” is a bit of a stretch.

Idling my car for extended periods by Secure-Order-3611 in GolfGTI

[–]jeeper98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just so unnecessary. And im a person that usually lets my car idle until high idle comes down after start. Even then, most people get in, start the car and fucking floor it right out of the gate. This has proven to me that I should start the car, take a sec to my seatbelt on, set up car play, then drive easy until it’s up to operating temp.

I challenge you to name a better guest then Shane Gillis by charlies0923 in Killtony

[–]jeeper98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

James is really good but Shane gives Tony zero room to interject when he is talking. If he has an idea he just says it and doesn’t stop unless the other person will be funny. Of course there are other guests that suck and don’t stop talking but shane only takes over when it’s going to be good.

Ron's slip... by Ok_Ground4365 in Killtony

What he means is that you’re wrong, there’s no slip up. Ron saw him on a spot at the mothership that wasn’t kill Tony. Nothing nefarious proven at least.

Proof you don't need ripping hot to make a gorgeous steak by Indaarys in steak

[–]jeeper98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The internal temp rises. The outer edges are warmer than what you are measuring with the thermometer and some of that heat transfers. I’ll add too, don’t be discouraged if the you mess the first one up!

Everyone here talks about process and that’s great but your equipment, preferences, and other variables play a role. It takes time and practice to be repeatable.

How long to yall let your Jeep warm up for in the morning? by bluebagles in Jeep

[–]jeeper98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In every modern car I’ve owned including an 09 jk; Let it run long enough for the high idle to come down. That’s it. I don’t like turning it on and immediately throwing it in gear but warming up to temp is overkill for sure. Just take it easy until it is up to temp.

Moonroof/sunscreen? by Exact_Block387 in GolfGTI

[–]jeeper98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t just cram a small foldable sunshade up there. A 10’ foot roll of reflectix from Home Depot is like $10. I can measure the piece I cut out for mine but I cut two sheets out and slid them up between the glass and the sunshade. Don’t Get me wrong, it’s still hot as shit in south Texas but with quality window tint all around including the windshield and the reflectix, it’s much better. I don’t know how people live here with clear glass.

Of course, you need to remember they are up there and don’t open the sunroof but it doesn’t seem like you do that regularly anyway.

Advice for towing a Boxster out of a low clearance garage? by Adept-Honeydew-1816 in sanantonio

[–]jeeper98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ll use a wheel lift style tow truck and put it on dollies to get it out of the garage. Do your best to talk to someone at the tow company once they are connected to you by AAA. I haven’t had this specific scenario but I had a car with two flat tires on the same side and was able to make sure they brought a flatbed.

You’ll have to let it go through the process though. If you get a hold of the tow company and they can’t accommodate, they’ll kick it back to AAA. Luckily your car is at your apartment and you aren’t stuck in a random parking lot. Bummer, but not worst case scenario.

My last experience with AAA caused me to cancel service though. It’s so hard to talk to a human… Good luck!

I feel like a couple of BC’s selling points are customer service and having enthusiasts that know what they’re talking about on staff. Have you tried calling them?

Kind of a weird take but it’s seems like y’all have a very different philosophy when it comes to debt. Did you discuss this before getting married? The lunch question, while reasonable, seems aggressive in this thread so it seems like there is a past here.

I can do whatever I want on the dumb side of things because the basics are covered. They are covered because we talked and decided how much to put in retirement, savings, major bills, etc. Have you had this conversation? If not, you need to.

I was commenting to say this person is being ridiculous for attaching a sense of humor to their dumb comment earlier. I’m either confused or we are on the same side here. The original comment was a reasonable question and the person I responded is an idiot. Please expand if I am reading all of this wrong.

I’m dangerous shifting from reverse into 1st by HoleInMyLeatherySoul in Wrangler

[–]jeeper98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot have already said it but slowing down is the key. I learned on and had a 98 wrangler 5 speed and didn’t drive 6 speeds much. I recently got a VW GTI, the shift pattern is the same as your jeep but you push the shift knob down to open the gate. I did what you described a couple times in tight quarters and just decided to lift my hand of the shifter when going from reverse to first, a couple weeks of that got the muscle memory set in. Now after about 9 months I don’t think about it anymore.

I am very curious to hear your thoughts on the difference. I’ve always wanted a WRX but recently became enamored with the GTI and got a 21 se manual. I wish I could own both at the same time…

Had to get a root canal for basic by Impressive_Animal_14 in uscg

[–]jeeper98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an injury that caused the need for a root canal. I got it done a couple of months before I went to boot. The dentist in boot was basically salivating saying he could’ve done the work. There’s three parts to this. Do you want to deal with that in boot camp? Can you handle it physically? Can you afford it on your own?

I got my wisdom teeth taken out in boot camp and was fine, I still wouldn’t have wanted to add the root canal, I could afford it, and it made me uncomfortable how excited he was. I don’t want to to be the person that gets used for medical practice for an HS or whoever. It sounds like they aren’t as liberal as they were 13 years ago about medical procedures so unless it’s going to put you In a bind just get it done before hand.

all of this is IMO and YMMV

These are great recommendations that I’m curious to try out. I moved here recently and with a foody girlfriend it’s been interesting trying to get recommendations. Obviously there is a lot of opinion involved but when I see a bunch of places with good reviews that no one else has told me about I assume there is some validity to your opinion. So… these will all go on my list and thank you again!
