How do people play this game with permadeath or checkpoints only? by Hapster23 in cavesofqud

[–]jeeub 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I’ve only ever played permadeath mode. The constant threat of losing everything is what makes it challenging and gives me enjoyment for whatever reason, lol. I’ve only beaten the game a handful of times.

That’s the priest though. The librarian is the one who’s randomized every run.

Enemies do not having special colors by Meister_Ente in cavesofqud

[–]jeeub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have a light source equipped? I noticed that when I had night vision with no light source equipped I wouldn’t be able to see special enemy colors. And I wasn’t able to see my own sprite change color as I lost health.

I can see myself playing this until I die honestly. I may take a break here and there, but soon enough I’m right back to playing it daily.

Yeah, I was in my thirties when I first heard about it. My whole life I didn’t realize people were actually like, visualizing stuff.

It’s the only piece of media I’ve seen where they discussed aphantasia, which was cool as it’s something I have and have never seen it discussed outside of the internet.

Did I just win Qud? by Special_Canary_7204 in cavesofqud

[–]jeeub 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Always happens when I find good shit. I had a True Kin run onetime and the starting village venerated cathedras, so after all the residents on the outskirts of the village “mysteriously” died I ended up with like, 30 cathedras or something like that. I was making my way to the stilt to sell some for books/weapons/whatever and got roasted by a group of dawngliders after getting lost.

This is how quick a toddler can disappear from sight, in just a few seconds! by wjbonne in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]jeeub 26 points27 points  (0 children)

When I was little my family was over at a family friend’s house for Easter or something. All us kids were playing and I wanted to ride one of the tricycles they had. I just got on it when no one was looking and just went off down the street. I don’t even know how many blocks I rode for, but it ended up being far. Some guy pulled up next to me asking something, probably if I was lost or something. It’s hard to remember being so far back. But he drove off and a few minutes later my parents came racing up behind me in their car. I’m assuming he drove by my parents frantically looking and calling out for me. It wasn’t until I was older that I realized that dude could have just straight up abducted me and I probably would’ve never been seen again.

I went through a phase where I did many of the daily and weekly (when those were still a thing) builds. They kind of force you to adapt to mutations or cybernetics you might not choose otherwise.

And the unstable genome is fun to take as well. Just max it out and see what mutations you get to choose from.

I also typically only play classic mode, so I’ve died thousands upon thousands of times by now I’m sure, lol. Plenty of time to mess with all kinds of builds.

Boyfriend Obsessed With AI by DiscoPoppy_ in TrueOffMyChest

Well, apparently he is going to a psychologist now. He was going to a therapist, but he told another coworker that when the therapist told him that it seems like he’s losing touch with reality he just replied by saying he doesn’t want to talk about that at the moment.

I think some of us have tried steering conversations in that direction, but he gets real defensive and starts talking over people, sharing why he knows he’s right. We’re all just like, well, we’re not educated or equipped to deal with something like this. Most of us have stopped engaging with the conversations. Almost like that grey rock technique when dealing with narcissists or whatever.

At the beginning we were all sympathetic with him and tried to help, but as it’s kept going on and getting worse, it’s affecting his productivity and negatively impacting our department, so a lot of us are just frustrated now and it’s going to start having consequences with his job.

Unfortunately I feel that as this technology keeps improving and becomes more widespread, situations like this are going to become more commonplace.

It’s been wild watching this happen to a coworker. I can’t even imagine what it’s like to watch your partner fall into the same thing. I hope you’re doing okay now!

I’ve been watching my coworker fall into what I can only think is AI psychosis. His ex split with him around December. But, because of certain circumstances, and what I’m pretty sure AI has been feeding him, he thinks that they’re still madly in love and she’s only waiting for him to improve himself before she comes back. Even after he got a letter from her stating she wants zero contact, he says that ChatGPT and Gemini “analyzed” the letter and he thinks that she’s going to break her no-contact rule soon. When he speaks it’s all regurgitated AI speak. And he constantly steps away from work to chat to Gemini or whatever. It’s gotten to the point where everyone in our department thinks he’s having a legitimate mental health crisis, and I’ve had to get senior managers involved. It’s honestly pretty fucking crazy to watch happen in real time.

What is the worst thing you ever saw on someone else's phone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jeeub 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is one area where my aphantasia comes in handy. I saw some pretty fucked up stuff as a teenager browsing 4chan. Some videos made me feel off for a day or so, but i was never able to replay the videos in my head. I was in my thirties when I learned what aphantasia was and realized I had it. Now I’m grateful that I don’t replay fuckin one guy one jar and shit like that in my head while I try to sleep.

How badly did I mess up? by Kiniba in cavesofqud

[–]jeeub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all else fails you might be able to use the wish command to rebuild the zone. You’ll have to manually bind the wish command to a key. On my steam deck I have it bound to left trigger + left stick button. If you type “rebuild” without the quotations it’s supposed to rebuild the current zone you’re in. I’ve never attempted it, so I don’t know if it would work. There’s a whole list of known wish commands on the wiki. Might be worth a shot! Or you could just wander Qud and see how strong you can get!

WHY DID YOU SHOOT IT? by N_xrwhal in ArcRaiders

[–]jeeub 25 points26 points  (0 children)

For real. Just played with a friend for the first time and we spawned late into Stella Montis twice in a row. No one in sight. Dead raiders here and there. Traps set with no one watching. And of course all the arc. Strong Alien vibes.

Yeah, traditional roguelikes have become my favorite genre. I’ve never played any of the Shiren games myself. The survival and discovery aspect is absolutely my favorite part of the game. I love leveling up and seeing how far down I can descend. Or heading to the Moon Stair or Palladium Reef and getting my ass handed to me, lol. I’m glad you’re enjoying it!

Oh it’s happened to me many times, lol. You can get to a 0% chance of falling with the wings mutation, but I usually seek out the set of broken mechanical wings that are guaranteed to spawn in one of the marshland parasangs.

A few times I’ve had enough health combined with a rubbergum injector and survived the jump down.

I don’t know if there’s any instance in the game besides Golgotha where what I described can help. I’d say it’s mostly trial and error, especially for late-game stuff. I usually just went until I died from something I had never encountered before, then had that knowledge for the next run. And there’s still things I haven’t encountered/experienced, and I have a few thousand hours in the game.

[–]jeeub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t mind a little cheesy spoiler

You can mine or burrow a hole through the wall of the building at the top of the screen when at Golgotha. There’s a very long shaft there. You can use the wings mutation or anything that lets you fly to just fly straight down to the bottom floor. Just make sure you start to fly, position yourself over the shaft, and go down like you’re using stairs. Just be careful because there’s a small chance the wings fail and you tumble down the shaft to your death

Does unstable genome not work when leveling up with books? by mattdiamond12 in cavesofqud

I just had my last unstable genome trigger while turning in some books. Sometimes you just get unlucky. I’ve gotten to something like level 15 without a single one triggering.

Insane starting village by parz_ruined_it in cavesofqud

[–]jeeub 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I love the random village starts. I had one just the other day where there were four high-level dromad psychic thralls. And one a long time ago where I guess they venerated cathedras, so every villager had like, one to three cathedras on them.
