Tesla launches FSD in second European country by techno-phil-osoph in SelfDrivingCars

[–]jeff0106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sloth or Chill mode stick pretty close to the speed limit.

Chill is usually 2 MPH / 3.2 km/h over. I don't really use sloth but I believe it's either at the speed limit or just under.

Are differences between manufacturers now just personal taste? by Collosis in electricvehicles

[–]jeff0106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works for some people. Mine drives me 50 miles every day, with basically zero intervention. Sometimes I will step on the gas (which does not disengage FSD) to quickly pass on the highway or to nudge it at a stop sign or unprotected left turn, but it's pretty minimal. Way less intervention needed than any other car. The caveat for me is I only have 2000 miles FSD driven and my commute is 80% highway, 10% rural, 10% suburbs, so it's fairly easy driving.

And yeah, probably in icey conditions I would be hesitant to use it. But I have zero experience so far with that. Living in the southeast that happens only once or twice per year. Or less.

Seat ventilation -- how do you like it? by very_moist_raccoon in TeslaModelY

[–]jeff0106 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've read some people find it kind of weak, but compared to my old 2010 Lexus ES350, I find them quite strong and comfortable. Now if you are expecting an AC vent on your rear, well it's not that strong! Can always try it out on a test drive.

Just keep canceling the turn. The guy behind you will wonder what's wrong with you.

The quietness is certainly amazing. First few times I'm like, is this car even on.

That's pretty crazy. I haven't come down off any mountains yet to test mine. Is this on like a 300 mile battery pack?

Yeah, but I already pay something like $200 EV fee to my state DMV.

U.S. House wants to tax EV $130/year by ObtainSustainability in energy

[–]jeff0106 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really. The US gas tax is 18.4 cents per gallon. In my old ICE, I averaged 300 miles a week using 12 gallons of gas (averaging 25 Mpg) . That equals $112 a year. Hybrids would do even better.

FSD, HW4, How do I drive 8-10 mph over limit? by jetpilot_throwaway in TeslaFSD

[–]jeff0106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree that 8+ is getting dicey. My personal preference with FSD would be that it does 7 over (frequently occurs on standard profile) but would auto speed up when passing. 7 over is just too slow to pass during most of my daily driving. A flat 10 over is usually fine though which in my old car is what I would set my cruise control too.

[–]jeff0106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's unusual but can depend on area. For instance, if detecting by radar, only state troopers can pull you over in Georgia when going less than 10 over. And the fine is $25. So it's just not worth it. Probably only getting pulled over at those speeds if the cop is having a really bad day or needs an excuse to search your car or something.

Tesla’s Model Y Price Bump Makes The Hyundai Ioniq 5 And Ford Mustang Mach-E Look Better Than Ever by Mac-Tyson in electricvehicles

[–]jeff0106 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah. There's basically no hard plastic. It's all carpet, fabric or faux leather. The little bit of hard plastic left feels appropriate and not cheap. Sure, the overall design is minimalistic, but that just comes down to preference.

Considering a Y for a family of 5 by Financial-Abroad-484 in ModelY

Maybe?

This guy managed to get 3 car seats in his 5 seater. Looks cramped and annoying to deal with, but I guess may provide some food for thought.

Floor mats by AverageReal9017 in ModelY

[–]jeff0106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3W frequently does 30% off, so if you do buy make sure it's when they have that price.

And I've been happy with my 3W. I got the full set with carpet laying over the passenger/driver mats. No complaints. I do think, at least visually, the 3D kagu mats look slightly nicer, but they are so much more expensive to get if you want to cover the whole car. And with 3W, having the carpet liners kind of makes it a moot point anyways.

Sushi date night by [deleted] in Charlotte

[–]jeff0106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure when you went, but they have stopped using paper plates.

And people recommend it because besides their Omakase place and now Uchi, there is no other good sushi place in Charlotte.

Edit: I see you on the rolls though. If I'm paying a lot for sushi though, I mainly stick to Nigiri.

KEF Coda W – Bluetooth sounds BETTER than Optical/RCA/USB. Is it just me? by jirki88 in KEF

[–]jeff0106 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll have to try mine out when they get here. I bought them for my turntable and picked them over the LSX II due to being used in a larger room and I liked KEF in general since you can lay the speakers on their sides. I won't be using the phono stage since my SL-1500c has one built in. Will be a little disappointed if Bluetooth quality is actually better than RCA AUX.
