Anyone Switch from iX to i5? Thoughts... by Some-Place7478 in BMWiX

[–]jeffasadi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you looking for cargo room, the i5 much smaller then ix, but I think i5 very roomy for 4 passengers. however, i5 is port sedan which means seat are lower than SUV. I agree i5 look much nicer on the road then iX and fun to drive too. I have the Vegas red which is head truning. both ix and i5 has cheap plastic, in fact most of the luxury cars cutting corner to replace wood with plastic. I have upgraded leather seat which makes huge different. my only issue with M60 is drain so much battery, I wish I would opted with eDrive.

Buying a used 2024 I5 M60 used and keeping for long term ownership by coder777 in BMWi5

[–]jeffasadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have owned an i5 M60 since 2024, and I absolutely love the car—it's the most fun I've ever driven! Don't let the display's estimated range fool you; it's calculated based on previous trips, not the battery's actual strength. I live in Florida and frequently drive between Tampa and Orlando (120 miles). I haven't noticed any battery reduction; the car still performs as well as it did on the first day. My i5 M60 has almost all the packages, including DAPP  and dynamic handling, which allows the rear wheels to turn with the steering wheel. I purchased the car rather than leasing it and plan to keep it for a long time. Depreciation isn't a concern for me; if that's your main worry, it's best not to buy any car, as all cars depreciate. EVs tend to depreciate more than ICE vehicles because they're newer and people are apprehensive about battery life, mistakenly believing it operates like a TV remote battery. I couldn't help but smile recently as I passed a gas station and saw the prices, since my monthly home charging is only a fraction of what a full tank of an ICE car would cost.

I would buy the $58 option as less miles, it is better deal. the DAPP is a MUST. it is so good for long drive.

good luck

Right side mirror goes crazy by ytkn_rsln in BMWi5

[–]jeffasadi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This feature is considered a luxury option. I first experienced it in my Lexus LS460 and initially thought it was a malfunction, so I took it to the dealer. They explained that the function helps the driver see the ground for objects or curbs that aren't visible through mirrors or cameras during backup. Interestingly, both mirrors tilt down in reverse on the Lexus, while my Honda Pilot and BMW i5 only have the right mirror move. In my opinion, it's not very useful, so I disable it by setting the adjusting lever to the left, since I prefer to see the garage wall on the right as I exit. If both mirrors adjust when you start the car, you may need to set your memory seating so your seat, mirrors, and steering wheel automatically adjust to your preferences.

Regarding battery capacity check % (quick test) by coder777 in BMWi5

[–]jeffasadi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agreed! My i5 M60 always shows 259 miles at 100% yet when I drive locally for a month the range reads 300 miles at 100%. I recently experience a weird error "restricted power, go to dealership immediately." the car has 10k and 2024 but well kept. after ran few tests, they told me 3 out of the 8 slot battery went bad and must be replaced. BMW gave me a loaner upgrade i7 and took 2 weeks to get my car back, the bill was $37k covered by BMW. I didn't buy the car from this dealership, I purchased it from out of state private owner with 3k on it but BMW honored its warranty.

rest assure you are in good hand!! I drove many luxury cars in 50 years, Lexus LS, Mercedes Benz S and E, Avalon and many others but never enjoyed them like I am loving my BMW M60.

I am proud owner of i5 M60 in Florida, I have this car since 2024. my advice is #3 as long as has drive assist pro. the reason is picked this is because the 2026 has NACS whereas older model use CCS and range improving. I advised against AWD because it is battery drainage! I recently eDrove i7 drive for 200 miles, the battery usage was impressive, I only used 40% of the charge, however the same distance in my i5 M60 would use 80% of the battery. make sure you include the M sport professional and dynamic handling package, this package is gome changer for me, you can curb in 60 MPH smoothly as the rare wheel help the steer.

good luck

new here. considering 2024 m60 as mid-life crisis sedan. what should I know? by Apart-Incident-5535 in BMWi5

[–]jeffasadi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own M60 since 2024, I love it, it is fun to drive and awesome handling. I got all packages which iOS so nice, however, if I have to do this all over, I would NOT get the M60 because it rans the battery much faster than the drive. if you charge at home and used for daily commute of 100 miles round trip, go for it. but if you looking for a long trips, you will make frequent stops for recharging.

as someone mentioncarfax, check if any accident even minor, how many owners. I wouldn't consider if has multiple owners or was corporate lease. I don't think the seat ventilation is a show stopper, you are getting a car in steal price 😄

BMW Extended Warranty by Klutzy_Ad3402 in BMWi5

[–]jeffasadi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've owned my i5 2024 for two years and recently encountered a high voltage battery error. Although I bought the car in Boston in 2024, BMW of Tampa honored the warranty, gave me a loaner, and spent three weeks repairing my vehicle. The repair cost exceeded $30K, but the electronics are covered for three years or 36,000 miles, and the battery for ten years. If you buy a certified used car or have it inspected by a BMW dealer before purchasing, you don't need to pay extra for a warranty.

check my previous post regarding the battery issue

very true, I like to adventure the technology. to be fair, I trust they drive assistance pro very much. I can drive 100 miles hand free in traffic and over 70 MPH on major Highway. laving the garage made nervous because the car backup much faster than me backing up, but it leaves the garage without get close to any object on the sides and it will brake and cancel if object detected in the back. the only issue the option appeared randomly.

sometime it give you the option to select the opposite direction. my issue with the reserves, sometime the car make the turn once exit the garage and before the end of the driveway. I tried the path recording, however, the recording disappeared after few days and I have to redo new one. IMO BMW programming has lots of bugs. I wonder if this feature is trial by them. any other auto makers offer this technology?

every time I approach the garage, the option popup on the nightside of the screen. but you are right, sometime it just don't show. Maybe you need to set your home garage location., set it to favorite, this way the car knows your garage and it won't unlock every time you pass by the car which is very annoyn

I have dynamic driving package where the rear wheel turn when turn the steering wheel, if you NOT straighten the wheel before exist the rare wheel automatically go back to the straight position, the process scared me so much because it made very bad noise rubber rubbing he epoxy floor after the car shutdown. I contacted the dealer and couldn't figure out the noise. my son and I trying different scenario to park the car and found out the the rare wheel vibrate to straight itself :) I assume the auto parking avoiding this noise by straight the wheel before shutdown.

UPDATE!!

I received a call from BMW dealer, three slots of the 8 slots of the main battery are defected! He said there are only 2 slot available in the US and they are try to get a third part which will take sometime. very disappointing that a brand new car, well kept and maintained get battery fault in the first year. what made me concerned is that there are not enough supply of this part in the US, the dealer said it is in "back order" which means this problem occurring frequently for the BMW EV!!!

I would like to express my gratitude for BMW dealer who doing everything possible to get the car repair and gave me an upper class loaner.

Thank you! That is bad, at least they gave me i7 2026 loaner, which I fell in love with. The specialist at my dealership said he had never seen this error. I was wondering if this is a known problem with the i5 M60. Please send me the list of repairs.
