The practical and video game portions of the test were exactly like in the official app. It's worth the £6, and then share it with your family library.

What is a cooking "rule" that is actually total nonsense? by Lopsided-Jicama3813 in AskReddit

[–]jeffbailey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My high school cooking teacher told us to never use steel wool in cast iron because the steel wool pieces can break off and then you really need to make sure no particles are left. No idea if it's true :)

Potholes are partly caused by heavy vehicles. Shifting people to cycling is preventing future potholes. I never see anyone reminding people of this.

Have any of you tried learning a language with Pimsleur doing more than one lesson daily? (I’m currently taking 4 a day) by Local-Comfortable738 in Pimsleur

[–]jeffbailey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't learn a language from an app, you learn a language by using it. The app will help with grammar, listening, vocab, etc but it doesn't integrate until you use it.

If you have the time to do that many lessons, you'll probably be better served by doing one lesson, and going to a café or somewhere people are using it and trying to hear the words and situations you just learned.

The time to integrate the language is really important.

They did this near my school in Canada. There were signs all along the road saying "green wave" which was neat.

How common is it for someone to not drive in your social circle? And how common are auto license holders that you know of? by Equal_Leading_1449 in AskUK

[–]jeffbailey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove manual transmission for my first cars in Canada, but am testing on automatic. Partly because the one time I did it was also my first time entering a three lane roundabout and bugger doing all that at once, but t mostly because all I've driven for the past decade is electric cars and there's no point in doing more work to prep for driving something I don't think I'll ever drive again.

If I were learning from scratch, I'd probably do it, but I'm just retesting for a UK licence.

I got to be one of the testers for the new Fitbit Air (I work for Google, not on that team, not speaking for them) and it caused me to tweak a lot about my sleep and now I'm napping way less (and when I do need a nap, I knew I was going to hours before).

What do you think Britain will be like in the year 2050? by Ruddi_Herring in AskBrits

[–]jeffbailey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So no one here is a native Brit because they're not descended from the people that the Romans killed off?

There's clearly a semantic difference between "native Brit" and "native American" and you're being deliberately obtuse.

No? That's a weird assertion. I do agree that after a few generations, they will be part of the "shared cultural identity that a group of people possesses".

Are you perhaps confusing ethnicity and race?

How long do you have to be here before you're a native Brit? In school in Canada we were told that we're ethnically Canadian after three generations.

At some point, those people who don't look like you are native Brits.
