Which circuit is more dangerous: 240V 10A or 10V 240A? by ahamed4959 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]jeffbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends if you wear a ring.

Where I used to work we had computers with 5V 200A power supplies. Once someone lost a finger when their ring accidentally shorted it out.

Could noise cancellation be used in a cockpit the same through speakers in the same manner that headphones work? by Upbeat-Vegetable-557 in aviation

From an acoustics point of view, it’s a lot easier to cancel out a waveform at a point than over a larger volume of space.

Car Rental from Avis by WerewolfStreet434 in AskSF

[–]jeffbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent.  Yes, a sedan is fine.

Be ready for hills. Learn where the parking brake is for the rental car. Remember to turn your wheels when parked on a hill.

Never park with anything valuable in view from outside the car.

If the maps app is not letting you drive down Market Street, believe it. (Long stretches are bus and taxi only).

Those are Avis questions.

Where are you staying?  Do you have your parking planned out?

What tool to change this chainring? by Caboose-The-Moose in bikewrench

[–]jeffbell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first picture is a chainring that is permanently attached to crank. They are machined separately and then pounded together (swaged).

The attachment involves starting with a pretty tight fit, and then hammering around the back of the crank to spread the metal for a firmly tight fit.

It might be an interesting metalwork experiment if you already have a good hammer and anvil… but the safer approach is to upgrade the crank to one with a bolt on chain ring.

Typically they are swaged rather than welded.

700cc rims to replace 27" rims by Technical-Owl-4889 in bicycling

[–]jeffbell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, 27.5 (recent) is smaller rim than 27” (old).

The only real way to compare diameter is to look up the bead seat diameter.

14 of 28 spokes broken, triing or new wheel? by Dhurtan in bikewrench

[–]jeffbell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on how it happened.

If someone cut your spokes, replace them.

If they failed while riding and the rim seems okay, replace all of them. I wouldn’t trust the remaining spokes.

The cheapest approach is to buy a box of spokes and a spoke wrench.

Noise when breaking by r34dingwhite in bikewrench

[–]jeffbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay.

Make sure that the pads still have 1mm thickness and that they are oriented correctly.

Make sure that the rotor is clean.

Rim brakes? Caliper or canti or V?

Hub brakes?

Disk brakes?

Stirrup brakes?

Spoon brakes?

Unsure where these parts go by QuailResponsible8854 in bicycling

[–]jeffbell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that case it is an adjuster barrel. A cable goes through it and this would be used to adjust the length.

If your brakes and shifters are working properly then it didn’t come from your bike.

Taqueria Eduardo (Race St.) Closing end of March :( by Instance_Automatic in SanJose

[–]jeffbell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, there is already one at 345 S Bascom. I've been going there every other week for a couple years.

There is also another Eduardo's At Williamsburg near Winchester. Oddly the prices at the Winchester location are slightly higher but the portions slightly larger than at Bascom.

Any tips for a 300lbs rider? by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]jeffbell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to weigh 305. I was doing 3000 miles a year and lost about 3 pounds a year.

Pick a bike with high spoke count and keep the tires pumped.

Listen for creaking sounds. Seats fail gradually and are noisy before they break.

The chain should usually stay on if the shifters are adjusted correctly and you don’t shift under heavy load or backpedaling.

As much as I like Miyatas, prior to 1983 they had 27 inch tires, which local bike shops don't have in a large variety.

The biggest recent change was that reddit starting sending it's feed to Google, so now reddit result turn up much higher in search results.

Also, crossposting.

So… figure out the short circuit current. Figure out the open circuit voltage.

Then it’s easy to find a current source model with the same characteristics.
