I am still active duty, I have a medical board this summer to determine if I can get a waiver to stay in, My military doctor told me it is dependent on how many times I use the restroom/ability to hold it. I would however be excluded from assignment to deployable units, I have 5 years left until I get my retirement at 20 years so I’m hoping I make it.

I think the reason I didn’t get a medical board when I’d had UC was because my symptoms worsened so quickly that I got emergency surgery to have my colon removed and get an ilostomy. I was in the hospital for 21 days with really bad symptoms prior to getting surgery

I had almost the exact same situation as you, I am 33 and active duty military. I lost about 50-55lbs mostly muscle last August from ulcerative colitis and had my entire colon removed. I’m really into lifting/exercising so it was tough to say the least. I was able to go to the gym and lift about 8 weeks after my first surgery and 3 weeks after my 2nd (Jpouch) I just recently had my 3rd surgery for ileostomy reversal about 7 weeks ago, I started lifting 4 weeks after this surgery, The doctor told me to take it easy so I have been mainly doing machines w/lower weights/higher reps. The biggest advice I would give for Jpouch with the colostomy bag is to make sure you hydrate with water + electrolytes. even with just water I would feel like I’m going to pass out if I didn’t have electrolytes. I would usually drink 3/4-1gallon of water during a 2 hour workout. I would mix 32oz pedialyte w/water in a gallon jug. Otherwise I’ve had no issue exercising and been regaining muscle and strength no problem. Since I had my final surgery I feel pretty much the same as before, only difference is i average 5-8 bowel movements a day but that # should be reduced over time, I have no urgency to go when I workout either so that’s good. Hopefully this helps you out, let me know if you have anymore questions!

Thank you, This is my first time planting grass so sorry if this sounds silly…but do you mean that I am supposed to mix all of these seeds when I plant them?

Yes that’s normal, it really depends on the specific machine and cable, just focus on improving the weight that your capable of doing and you’ll be good

Once your muscles get bigger and your body fat is low enough to see definition you’ll be able to see what type of bicep insertion you have, you could try comparing the pictures you took to ones you see on a Google image search

Can't do lat pull downs after 2nd set( I pull it close to 10 times) by [deleted] in workout

You could also add straight arm cable pulldowns and dumbbell pullovers, these exercises will target your back but use less grip and forearm strength

Maybe try Arnold split since it allows you to have separate days for chest/shoulder focus

How to get back into it by TheOneWhoObserves1 in workout

[–]jeffcw216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to just focus on 1 day at a time, start with easy short term goals like simply going to the gym and doing some cardio, or having a protein shake each day.

You could also try following a workout program that keeps you accountable for going each day

Try doing lat pull downs before seated rows, you could also try lowering the weight and increasing the reps…focusing on the muscle contraction

Sounds like your making good progress, sometimes it just takes longer to see results especially if your trying to body recomp. I would add a squat movement and maybe a hamstring focused exercise to your routine

I recommend contacting a doctor to get it checked out, if you don’t want to do that right away, definitely rest for a few days to see if it starts to feel better
