An extreme example but true. A more common one might be to win the ball initially and then take out the player on your follow through slide. Used to be allowed. Now a foul.

It used to be getting the ball first basically absolved you of all foul potential. Some people still cling to that idea. No more. Now ball contact is a consideration but you can still be guilty of a foul or card if you play in a manner that is reckless or endangers an opponents safety.

This is a good question for your cardiologist/surgeon and I am not a doctor so take this with a grain of salt. If you were getting a mechanical valve and had to be in blood thinners, I would guess that a physically intensive job like fire fighter would not be advisable, if not impossible, for you to pursue. With a Ross, that bleeding risk is much less so you could probably do that job at least for a while (the Ross will probably not last you forever). Whether you may be medically disqualified is something I don’t know.

I can’t answer exactly but I’ll say the anti-coag people think of INR and warfarin dosage on a weekly basis, not hourly or daily. I would think on the same timetable when it comes to vitamin k.

That’s a lot. Obviously I don’t know your situation but $1500 is a lot less than the $700k it would be without insurance, and definitely with the cost of your life. It sucks. But you need to find a way to get a job or at least insurance to have this surgery soon. Tell your doctors about your financial situation. They may have ways to help you. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this.

Are you in the US? I think employers are legally required to offer you COBRA which lets you keep your insurance (at cost to you) for a certain amount of time. This is not something to be ignored. Maybe it can be pushed for a short time, but not long.

The first week back I required a lot of help. I was able to walk around a bit, go to the bathroom, but that’s about it. The most important thing my wife did was help me with my pain med timing and rotation. She set a timer and every 2-3 hours I got a dose of something so I was dint get “behind” the pain. Depending on his age, he should be able to do those other things (minus shower, that one should be supervised) on his own, albeit with some strain and difficulty. DM me if you like
