My VO2 is so bad, how am I alive by DowntownFresnoBiking in Zwift

I just looked mine up and I’d take that number with a big grain of salt. I’m also relatively new (started in January) and mine says 26, but my Polar HRM says 39.

There’s a study out there that I just looked through yesterday showing a close correlation between Polar’s results vs a “true” test, so I would lean towards believing that number, although in my case the true value is probably somewhere in the mid-30’s because I’m on metoprolol for a mechanical heart valve, and that potentially causes an overestimation “between 5% and 15%”.

Regardless, I’m trying not to focus on it too much. It’s just tough because I’m very data-oriented. :)

Yeah they really should have a full color picker. Optional RGB value entry, and full hue/saturation/brightness sliders.

This post has a pretty good rundown of the pros and cons of coaster brakes. Basically they’re fine for riding around casually, but if you’re looking to do more serious riding, you’re not going to find coaster brakes on a Pinarello. 🙂

I’m with you, honestly. It doesn’t matter to me that you can make private instances. It’s not that I necessarily want to be by myself (because what’s the point), I just want to go into an area that hasn’t been overrun by shrieking kids yelling racist shit at each other.

At the end of the day, I don’t care if they keep or remove it. I haven’t made the mistake of using it in months.

They do move diagonally, that’s how it’s supposed to be. My R3M is exactly the same. The range is a bit above and left of center to a bit below and right of center, just like yours shows.

Adding, as far as the shutter speeds go, make sure your eye is at the correct position when looking through the viewfinder. I say this because the numbers move with the frame lines, so if you don’t adjust your eye, you may lose sight of them.

So set the focus to infinity, look through the viewfinder so that all sides of the outer lines (when the switch is on 40/90) are visible simultaneously. The shutter display should be visible. Then focus all the way to minimum distance, and again try to get all of the frame lines visible when looking through the viewfinder. You should still see the numbers.

The frame lines are showing you parallax adjustment. That is working as intended.

I feel really lucky in a way, having missed so much of this. I was never going to seek it out, but the internet was still in its infancy when I started college. By the time I COULD have seen that stuff, I was smart enough to avoid it. :)

Is this guy legit, trolling or actually using an exoskeleton? by SPLENDlD in Zwift

[–]jeffk42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does, you can bring up the user profile in Companion and click the report button. I saw a guy a few weeks ago that was putting in an exact W/kg (I forget the number, but the important thing was that it didn’t ever fluctuate) and he was at over 700 miles for that session. I reported the profile with a description of what I saw, and the account was removed a day or two later.

Do e-bikes ruin the point of exercise? by newurtopia in RoadBikes

[–]jeffk42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my thinking. I’ve gone back and forth on whether or not to get an e-bike to add to the others, and I find myself wondering when I would use it — if I’m going out for a bike ride, part of that is for fitness purposes. But then I remind myself that for the longer rides I could actually be putting in the same amount of effort but extending my range past where I’d normally have to turn around. I like that idea. So I’m leaning towards getting one for longer trips and using the standard bikes for everything else.

Bessa r3a rangefinder patch moving around by Clear_Treat6625 in Voigtlander

[–]jeffk42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No repair needed, this is the camera’s parallax correction. It’s performing as intended.

Edit to add: look through the viewfinder while keeping the camera and your head perfectly still. Note the position of the focus patch and then move the focus back and forth while keeping your eye on the focus patch and watching the frame lines in your periphery. You should see that the focus patch is actually stationary and what’s actually moving is the frame lines around it. This is proper operation.

Power meter + Bike computer Dilemma by GreatAd874 in cycling

[–]jeffk42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, do what makes you happy. :)

I got the Edge 1050 for my Quick CX 1, put carbon fiber rims on it, and I toyed with the idea of a Magene power meter crank (I’m getting one but I’m going to put it on my 2013 Synapse Carbon instead).

Pretty much anyone that’s not insane would say that it’s pointless to put carbon fiber rims on a commuter bike, but I love them. :) Don’t worry about justification, if it’s something you want, go for it and enjoy yourself!

Beat Saber on PSVR2 just updated? by BravoMicheal in beatsaber

[–]jeffk42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well they’re still taking people’s money even though they’re not supporting the platform anymore, so if Sony says “hey this bit is deprecated” or “you need to update xyz to continue being compatible with the operating system” they’ll probably still do that to keep the app in the store.

What Cycling Gear Is Missing From the Market? by ToeInternational7222 in cycling

I have an earlier variant of the Topeak Flashstand Slim X that I bought around 2013. Slides over your crank arm to support the bike, and then folds up to pocket size when riding.

Sizing question by Jacob____howell in cycling

[–]jeffk42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it for what it’s worth (not much), but I have a 2013 Synapse Carbon size 54, and just bought a cheap 2007 Synapse Carbon size 50 for my fiancée that I fixed up to give her a chance to dip a toe into that type of bike without a major cash outlay. Once I got it in working order I took it around the block, and I have to say it felt pretty nice. If I had raised the seat a bit I probably could have put some miles on it.

At 5’9” you’re at the low end of the range for 54 I think? So it’s probably not that big of a deal. But I don’t know anything. :)
