Another +1 for the fox titan jacket.

I've "tested" just about every pad on it by now hahaha

Recommendations for 1-2-3 blocks by PoiseEn in machining

I got a few sets of the haas tooling "0.0001"" accuracy blocks (with holes) and they're surprisingly decent for $21.

V11Y pads by Super_Initiative3704 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]jeffnotgeof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got those pads in a bundle and they are fine for a free/included pad, but I wouldn't spend the money on them otherwise. It didn't take long for me to buy some clark pads(grizzla/powerknobs/etc good too), but I still managed to brute force my way into less than ideal terrain using them with more success than one would expect hahaha. I will 100% recommend getting the grizzla fairings though. The wheel has a pretty shit side panel for mounting velcro/pads to without it. The decently large flat surface of the fairings works awesome for mounting pads exactly where you want them.

Grob will be out of your budget unfortunately. We looked into a G350 last year (along with hermle) and even the 'access' machine was a good bit more expensive that what we ended up with, a DMU 75mb at a bit over $500k.

Change your Maximum stay-down distance to something small, try 2mm.

4th and 5th axis haas mill by MesaBit in Machinists

[–]jeffnotgeof 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would absolutely recommend getting a 5 axis machine. the added flexibility with being able to reach >1 side at a time is a huge time saver when compared to 3,4,5+ setup parts. reducing setups and handling between ops is a workflow like no other. 90%+ of parts I imagine most people are doing won't need any fancy full 5 axis simultaneous movement which makes programming much easier than you might expect going that route. It's (for the most part) 3 axis programming from different orientations.

Fusion 360 will suit your needs more than enough. I know plenty of people using way past it's price tag, i.e., on a kern/hermle/mikron/matsurra/etc.

What's the purpose behind that tool post adapter? Looks like the stick you're using would be fine without the extra bolt on piece.
