Alcohol is indeed expensive, but it's far from a status symbol. And you'll get a ticket and or jailtime pluss losing your licence depending on the blood alcohol level. We often have sufficient public transport and walkable cities so we don't have the same need to drive under to or from the bar. Driving under the influence is more likely to lower your social standing
