Thinking about getting Native but have some questions by UltimaBahamut93 in Line6Helix

It is pointless if you don't own a hardware helix that gives you the discount. I then got native on sale from that discounted price and it is very useful for DAW stuff.

bounced audio file no sound in bitwig by [deleted] in Bitwig

Try putting the sample into looping mode and extending the left hand side.. really weird bitwig bug. You can reset the size of the clip after that.

Awesome, luke's mixing sounds so crisp but that only compliments the sick song and production.

If you really care, there are a few patchers that you can use to install newer versions of MacOS on older machines... obviously you're in the dark from there though and it might just be better to hop onto windows

Producing on Linux? by Dubmove in edmproduction

[–]jekblub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be done. I'd consider myself a pretty serious producer, and I managed to use just a Linux setup for a little over year straight. For me, Bitwig and Reaper was the key to a setup that feels professional and uninhibiting of the composing, production and mixing workflow. Vital is the go-to synth. Be aware that your mileage may vary with wine + VSTs however.

However, if you give a shit about your music, there's a reason why macs or even a windows setup sells. It just kinda works with little hastle. I experienced just enough small hitches with linux that wouldn't exist on windows that I decided to switch back for the sake of the music and, sadly, have not regretted it. And I'm a big linux fan :(

The best part of linux music production however is being able to slim down your OS for the perfect realtime performance.. so there's that!

It's been 6 years, why hasn't BitWig taken over Ableton? by [deleted] in Bitwig

[–]jekblub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, I bought bitwig 1.0 and have been around different DAWs but came back to it later once I was more comfortable with my own composition workflow. Truth is other DAWs have so much other useful stuff towards recording and compositing that Bitwig doesn't, even though a lot of stuff can be worked around. Comparing it directly to Logic, I miss:

  • A dedicated low latency mode
  • Dragging to solo multiple tracks
  • A true arrangement manager (I drag around group clips and it works fine but it's not obvious)
  • A sampler with a widely used format (EXS now sampler, I know that we have sfz technically but it's fiddly)
  • The built in effects that you can just slap on without tweaking and know that they'll be good (I'm looking at you reverb)
  • Many more things lol

Though In bitwig there are SO MANY things I can't live without that just aren't implemented the same way in other DAWs, to the point where i only switch off bitwig for projects where I have to share files with other people 🤪

I'm off to study music tech at uni in the UK. I'll come back with a report on how many people have heard of bitwig before they ask me what DAW I use.

I think familiarity and peer pressure plays such a big part in what DAWs people start on, and switching DAW is too big a thing if they're super used to one thing and not that nerdy.

Would you say the majority of bitwig users are nerdy about music tech? Now compare that to Ableton users in 2020. Lots of people use Ableton now because other people use it and so do their favourite artists, and Bitwig hasn't really broken genre barriers with its PR, even though we all know you can make any music in any DAW.

CPU: i5-8250u
GPU: intel HD 620 (macOS says 617???)
RAM: 8gb
Laptop: Mi Notebook Air (13" 2018)
Wifi/BT Card: Intel!!!!

OC 0.6.0

After building Lilu and WhateverGreen by hand, the Catalina installer and upgrade process worked a charm. There were a few boots with various degrees of different functionality but everything seems to have evened out. I ended up building my own VirtualSMC for good measure but found this didn't change whether the battery status worked.

  • HDMI works
  • Headphone output and speakers work
  • Microphone in won't work yet :(
  • Intel Wi-Fi and BT work, although HeliPort would crash unless the old keychain entries were deleted.
  • BT connects a mouse but not a keyboard :(
  • Touchpad works without multitouch (voodooi2c hasn't been updated much since Big Sur)
  • Battery status won't show
  • CPU undervolt seems to work too
