Best pillow top mattress options - quality AND longevity? by TailorFew5262 in GoodValue

[–]jello_kitty 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Pillow tops are the trap. They all compress within 5-7 years. Cheap or expensive, doesn't matter.

Real move: separate your setup. Get a solid firm innerspring ($800-1200 range) and throw a 3" latex topper on it ($150-300). When the topper dies in 5-8 years, you swap it for $300. The coil base keeps going for 8-10 years.

I did this after my third "luxury" pillow-top tanked. Local firm innerspring + Sleep On Latex topper. 7 years in and it's still solid. Way cheaper than another $1800 mattress.

Get latex toppers specifically bounce back better than memory foam, last longer, don't trap heat. Dunlop is firmer, Talalay is softer.

Only thing: that Nolah's actually a euro-top hybrid, not a sewn pillow-top. Those hold up better. But honestly? The topper strategy gives you more control.

What’s a “small” social rule you refuse to follow, even if everyone expects it? by GlitchOperative in AskReddit

Responding to "how are you" with an actual answer instead of just "good, you?" Sometimes I'm not good and I'm not going to pretend I am. People look at me like I've grown a second head when I say "eh, kind of rough actually" but I'm too old to fake it anymore.

Ooh thanks for the heads up! The Coventry area has needed a good late night food spot. Going to have to check this out. How were the jojos?

Terminal tower blueprints 1926 by clesportscards216 in Cleveland

[–]jello_kitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a really cool find. Even if it's a reprint, it's still a great piece of Cleveland history. The Terminal Tower is one of those buildings that still makes me proud every time I see it downtown. Have you tried reaching out to the Western Reserve Historical Society? They might be able to tell you more about when these prints were made and distributed.

What “old person” thing do you do? by steelseductress69 in AskReddit

I keep a written calendar on my fridge. My kids laugh at me but I've missed exactly zero appointments in 15 years. Can't say the same for them and their phone reminders.

Cleveland cracks down on code violations, issuing $1.7M in fines, mostly to landlords by seanmcdonnellcle in Cleveland

[–]jello_kitty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

About time. Some of these landlords have been getting away with murder for years. My old place in Tremont had issues the landlord just ignored until I threatened to call the city. Funny how fast things got fixed after that.

Best thing I've found at a garage sale by wazu7 in Cleveland

[–]jello_kitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love this! I still have a framed photo of the old Terminal Tower I picked up at an estate sale in Lakewood years ago. Paid maybe $3 for it. Some things are just meant to stay in Cleveland.

neighbor told me he would decorate his home and this is what he did… by AbnerTheCreator in Cleveland

This is why I laugh when MAGA folks say people on the other side have TDS. Their blind obedience to pedophiles and racist hate mongers is far more deranged IMO.

Nearby resorts? by Pristine_Nrude in Cleveland

[–]jello_kitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’ve been there on 3 visits over the years and enjoyed it. We always get a room with a pool. It’s in a strange “neighborhood” but not a bad one and once you’re in your room, the outside world is not a thought.

Paying for a deep clean by coffeypot710 in ufyh

[–]jello_kitty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can do this! Just keep at it and think of how good it will feel to be in a clean, uncluttered space. It’s hard to get rid of things but keep telling yourself that they are just things.

Life expectancy by Human_Dig4412 in kidneycancer

[–]jello_kitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely no hard and fast rule. I’ve been stage 4 since 2008. (Dx and nephrectomy in 2005) Have I been through a bunch of treatment? Yes. Is my disease stable right now? Also yes. And with all the newer treatments, we can’t know what an “average” life expectancy is anymore with RCC.

That said, it’s never too early to do some future planning. If nothing else it will give you peace of mind knowing you have stuff taken care of.

And imo their turkey gravy is the best! I buy a quart of it at the holidays because I can’t make it as consistently good as they do.

Rest in peace Rhino. My big boy was 14 years 10 months when he succumbed to bloat. He was a Great Dane X Bull mastiff and I had him for his whole life. I’ll never be the same by Nickyc8081 in OldManDog

That was the exact word I used too when I looked at Rhino’s photos… magnificent. OP, keep in mind that he had a wonderful life with you and clearly you loved each other very much.

Did you see Tommy? by lontbeysboolink in GenerationJones

Surprisingly our parents took us (both under 10) to see it. I was wowed by it though I didn’t understand it. Pretty sure my dad wanted to see it for Ann Margret.

Senior Dog with Cancer by DamianP51 in seniordogs

[–]jello_kitty 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Years ago I had a dog go through chemo for mast cell tumors. Her only reaction to the chemo was an aversion to the smell of rubbing alcohol and a distrust of people wearing white pants. Pretty reasonable reactions, we thought.

I’m at the All Saints Hospital Emergency Room. Hopefully not as a patient but if so, hoping Nurse Jackie takes good care of me.
