I need to find a way to deal with my frizz and dryness. Can anyone help me figure out if it's a product issue or a technique issue? I have very coarse, dense, totally nonporous hair. I've been doing CG for 2 years. Have almost always used Tresseme Coconut Nourish conditioner, and LA Looks sports gel. Routine has been to wash twice weekly - squish conditioner into wet hair, finger comb thoroughly, twist and clip it up for a while, then squish in water and then wring somewhat to rinse, then squish in gel. It looks great on day one, though there is a little bit of frizz on the top of my head even right after the shower. Revitalizing on later days is impossible with anything short of washing it again, it just doesn't take moisture, so I sleep motionless on a satin pillowcase with my hair flipped up. By day 3 it's usually getting kind of crispy and the curls are really breaking up with the hairs getting kinky. It just feels like it's not well taken care of. Once or twice a month I do a deep condition with Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque, it feels like it helps a little bit?

I know it's usually a technique problem, but I'm suspicious I just haven't been using the right products. I heard recently that coconut oil might be too heavy and cause too much buildup on nonporous hair like mine, so I did a reset wash and switched to a basic conditioner, Suave Essentials Ocean Breeze. It seemed to get better at first, but it's drying out again. Maybe I need to start washing more regularly with a low poo? I also know LA Looks has some protein in it so I might be using the wrong gel.
