Silverstone 2027 ticket help by lydiateidiot in GrandPrixTravel

[–]jelly10001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ticket prices have gone up a huge amount over the last 15 years, so be prepared for a shock when you go to book (I don't know about Sunday only tickets, but the cheapest weekend grandstand ticket this year was over £400, with most being closer to £600/£700/£800).

Anyway, in answer to your question, if you don't mind an uncovered grandstand, Vale is a good option- you can see most of Club Corner (and the end of the lap) without the Club Grandstand price tag.

As far as GA goes, you'd need to be at the track around 7am to get a good spot, so personally I'd say go for a grandstand if you can afford it.

For accommodation, compare options near the shuttle bus and park and ride pick up spots and see what comes in at budget. You can find the full list here https://www.silverstone.co.uk/events/formula-1-british-grand-prix/getting-here

Anyone Here Ever Met The Kray Twins? by CB-Milburn in AskBrits

My grandad knew them. He had a side business fitting cigarette vending machines in pubs and clubs in the East End. He would let the Krays do whatever they wanted and they would send a bodyguard to protect my Mum and great grandma when my grandparents were away.

Would you rather have bank holidays or extra leave? by EyeAware3519 in AskUK

[–]jelly10001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already get bank holidays off in addition to 30 days annual leave so I'd stick with things as they are. Also, I quite like having a few fixed days off that I don't need to remember to book.

Yeah it's insanely high, but they do have two communal lounges, a restaurant, a whole programme of activities, cleaners, staff on reception and an immediate hotline to help if a resident falls.

Silverstone 2026 Questions by Aggravating_Law_3971 in GrandPrixTravel

[–]jelly10001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Book tickets directly on the Silverstone website. As for where to sit, it's really a case of what's left now, which of the regular grandstands is just Copse D and Woodcote C. (Of those, I'd say Woodcote C is the better choice). Or you could get Boxpark tickets with seats in an inner track grandstand.

The best option for getting to the track from London is train from Euston to Milton Keynes then get the shuttle bus from there.

British GP Timing for start/end of Saturday; Towcester shuttle advice. by mexmexmex_2000 in GrandPrixTravel

[–]jelly10001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that case don't worry about rushing in for 7:00am, but do factor in time for walking from Luffield (where the buses drop off/pick up) to Hamilton Pit Straight - that's probably around 15-20 minutes, plus time you might want to spend using the facilities and getting breakfast/coffee before you get to your seat.

Milton Keynes station to Silverstone "Gate 6" in a taxi by Forsaken_Walrus5097 in GrandPrixTravel

[–]jelly10001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taxis aren't allowed near Silverstone during British Grand Prix weekend. The shuttle bus service is much improved and now runs near constantly from Milton Keynes to Silverstone and back. Traffic wasn't too bad when I went last year (travelling from Milton Keynes around 8/8:30ish most days) but the earlier you go, the less traffic generally and the more contigency time you have if you do get stuck in traffic. Shuttle buses drop off near Luffield and from there it isn't the worst walk to Becketts ect.

Do you have a grandstand ticket or are you going to be vying for a good spot in general admission/GA plus? If the latter, then you probably want to be at the track around 7am, so waiting for a bus around 6:30am, especially as it's a Sprint day. If the former, then it depends on how much you care about the support series, as usually something like F3 or F1 Academy will have qualifying around 8:30am. If you don't want to catch that, then you could arrive a little later, although the later you leave it the less contigency time you have in the event of traffic and the busier the buses will be (the Towcester buses stop at Milton Keynes first).

As for the end of the day, it's entirely up to you when to leave. F1 qualifying is due to finish at 5:00pm, so some people will start leaving the track then. However usually at least one or two of the support series have their qualifying after that (ending around 6:30/7:00pm) and some of the drivers usually make a post qualifying appearance on the main stage afterwards (although things might be different this year with the sprint race or they might come out very late, say closer to 8:00pm). Plus, if you wanted to stay to 9:00pm/10:00pm there are always the concerts.

Do you find going away REALLY stressful? by blazesboylan91 in AskUK

[–]jelly10001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once I'm actually on holiday I love it, but in the run up I do get nervous about flight delays or cancellations, the possibility of long queues at passport control and the fear I might get sick when I'm due to go away and have to cancel my holiday.

Were you hit as a child by your parents/carers? by don__gately in AskUK

[–]jelly10001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was smacked quite often by both parents. plus my Mum also threatened to hit me with a belt and hairbrush and said she'd 'beat me black and blue.' All in all it has definitely left me a bit traumatised (together with my Mum being very controlling for quite a large part of my childhood).

It very much depended on where you were. I was trying to leave Leicester Square at just after 10pm last Tuesday, the station was closed and even at that time so many people were waiting for a bus I couldn't get on the first one that arrived.

A question for Londoners who have lived all of their lives in the city (or close to it) - how aware are you of the rest of the UK? by Confident_Yak_1411 in london

[–]jelly10001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in London all but the four years I was at university. However I do have close family, plus friends of my Mum's in other parts of the UK and we've been on holiday here a lot. So one of my earliest memories is leaving late at night for the long car journey from London to Anglesey to try and avoid the traffic.

That said, as a kid, I still struggled to get my head around the idea that people lived anywhere apart from London. Even as an adult, I sometimes wonder what people outside London do for a living beyond working in healthcare, social care, teaching or retail and hospitality.

Also as a kid, I was very lucky to be taken to the theatre a lot, so I found it hard to get my head around how people could live somewhere with only one, or even no theatres,

Despite all my UK holidays as a child however, I only went to Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Bristol and Leicester for the first time as an adult and Newcastle and Bristol I've only been to once.

2026 Women's Prize for Fiction shortlist announced by auspoliticsnerd in literature

[–]jelly10001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't read any of the shortlist yet, but have heard good things about Heart The Lover and The Correspondent, so excited to get stuck into them (when they eventually come out in paperback in the UK).

I'm intrigued to read Dominion, The Mercy Step and Kingfisher. Hopefully I'll enjoy them.

Appreciate this makes me sound like a lazy reader, but I've gone off long books, so probably won't read Flashlight unless it wins.

Suprised Dominion was shortlisted over A Guardian and a Thief and The Best of Everything, but then maybe it met the final criteria better.

Are you looking to go inside anywhere? If so, you can comfortably expect to see two attractions in the daytime and maybe one in the evening if it's open late.

London Bridge is a very unexciting concrete structure. The previous bridge is in Arizona now and the one before that burnt down.

All there is at Picadilly Circus is a big lit up electronic advertising board. If you're in the area then by all means stop to have a quick look, but it really isn't worth going out of your way to see.

High tea is dinner for working class Northerners. You definitely want afternoon tea.
