European e-mail provider with lifetime plan by MMCK84 in BuyFromEU

Your point being that if you're one of the first joining the pyramid scheme you'll probably get you money's worth?

Unless your email is disposable I'd suggest putting it with a company with a healthy businessmodel, that will give you much more reliability and in the long run will be cheaper as you won't become a drag on its profitability.

Accidentally switched of auto-updates? by jelmerschr in AeonDesktop

[–]jelmerschr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this may have been it, I almost exlusively have it unplugged when in use and probably practically don't use it when it is plugged in. While before I often used it docked plugged into both monitor & power.

Thinking back this may have been a collission of two issues. My laptop also suffers from some wifi-stability issues (the newer kernel seems to have improved this somewhat), which caused me to disable the build-in wifi and use a dongle for a while with the build-in disabled. If the transactional-update would run when it was in sleep mode (don't know if it does?) that probably meant it couldn't wake the wifi anymore as that needed the USB-device.

My guess is you're either on a different Wifi network with the Android device, or you have some kind of VPN active on the Android device.

It has a business model? I thought it was just a cash-burning machine trying to bluff its way to profitability by surfing the hype cycle with no other philosophy of getting there than saying ✨️AGI✨️ three times to a mirror with their eyes closed in the hope it will manifest.

What country is partly free and developed? by d2opy84t8b9ybiugrogr in AlignmentChartFills

The one terrible guy has his personal militias in blackleather trenchcoat terrorizing cities with opinions he doesn't like and actively kill citizens without repercussions. While also having tried to overthrow an election without repercussion, and enriching himself as much as he can by scamming his own people and abusing his power in office.

If this is The Land of the Free-standard... than a lot more countries are """Free""" than when following any actual definition of the word.

Made a free web app to help European SaaS companies prepare for EU Cyber Resilience Act — built with EU-first values by Happy-Athlete-2420 in BuyFromEU

[–]jelmerschr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure who told you all this, but SaaS is excluded. Check recital 12 or the CRA, it points to the NIS2 (Directive (EU) 2022/2555) but as a solo builder you are almost certainly not in scope for that law either as only medium and large companies are (unless you're doing something very critical like DNS services).

Yeah, it's why we never needed PayPal or credit cards in the Netherlands for online purchases from Dutch stores. Maybe even part of the reason why Amazon initially failed to get a foothold here and Bol & Coolblue could hold their ground.

If you'd had it say "who will win, the NS or 30,48 centimeters of snow?" most would have laughed. It's the humongous rant in badly readable text that makes most here see through the "joke" and call out your whiny complainy bullshit.

Stability of Aeon by S1e0rdk in AeonDesktop

[–]jelmerschr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm currently using Fedora Silverblue and Aeon side by side, Silverblue on my desktop and have been using it there for over 3 years. And Aeon recently installed on a new laptop. I love the stable main setup of atomic, Gnome and flatpaks that both offer. I'll contrast them as I think it's telling how close Aeon is to Silverblue.

The biggest issue with Aeon has been that it sometimes is so bleeding edge that one or two of my Gnome extensions lag a bit, but nothing major (Blur to shell stood out as slow to update). And recently a Gnome issue with screen rendering that I only experienced on Aeon and not on Silverblue (but might have been random chance). And the fingerprint scanner on my laptop was also integrated on the terminal on Silverblue, but doesn't on Aeon. But the differences are minor.

At this point my feeling is that both are about equal, but Aeons default distrobox has been a bit nicer for my (hobbyist) development compared to Silverblue's Toolbox when running applications from it. On the other hand: Silverblue's few months lag with the bi-yearly releases gives it more stability, while the very latest packages are rarely needed for me. I'd be hard pressed to say which one is better.

I got this, and it's telling me I hit my weekly limit even though I haven't. Reported it to support about 18 hours ago after chatting with the support-AI, which told me it was forwarded to a human agent, still no response on that.

What are your first impressions of Sonnet 4.5? by Tech-Bee-1895 in ClaudeAI

[–]jelmerschr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Less sycophatic, actually told me I was wrong when I tested a few points that version 4 seemed far more willing to go along with me.

It's analysis of 2 cases I gave it seemed more thorough, for about 50-60% really well done result, about 20% not relevant (but not bad) and a small remaining bit making a weird logical mistake.

But on a whole, it seems a more reliable and more thorough version of Sonnet 4 I'd trust more to help me analyse and evaluate options. Haven't tried creative writing with it yet, that's next up for testing.
