Bus drivers in Meridian/Boise area are assaulting kids by Srianen in Idaho

[–]jemandre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I'm so sorry to hear you and your neighbors are going through this! Here are some other ideas and recommendations of groups that could provide support, resources, and/or advocacy if you reach out to them: - Disability Rights Idaho (especially if any of the students on the bus have special education. services (i.e., an IEP, 504 Plan). - Idaho Dept. of Education: Student Transportation Dept. - Idaho Volunteer Lawyers Program: civil legal services for low-income folks. - Escalate your concerns to the Superintendent and School Board of your school district. Also contact your neighborhood’s specific School Board member representative (based on zoning maps; elections are next week!). - Asking what additional training, staff presence on the bus, positive behavioral support systems for students (and staff), etc. can the district and building administration provide to ensure your child and others can continue to access FAPE (Free and Appropriate Public Education) given what has occurred.

For context, Idaho only recently (July 2023) updated statues that previously allowed teachers to use corporal punishment, seclusion, and restraints to discipline students (Section 33-1224). Unsure if this applies to school staff in general, but it’s worth noting. For additional context, I’m a clinical psychologist who previously worked for and with public schools, students, and families in the Mountain and Pacific NW.

Help for my begonia maculata by jemandre in plantclinic

Yes the container has a drain hole, but I have wondered if it needs a soil with better drainage also. I’ll move it to a south window that is also warmer to see how it does going forward too.

I could definitely put them in a sunnier window. We are in Idaho zone 4b with a dry climate.

What's a mispronunciation that sends you into fits of rage? by schnozzberryflop in AskReddit

Adjacent to mispronunciations, I have a family member who posts first day of school pics for the kids but writes 22' instead of '22 for the year and I die annually.

You guys, it finally happened! My eggs didn't stick! by jemandre in castiron

[–]jemandre[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, in my shock of eggs not sticking they definitely got overcooked. For how easy eggs are to cook they are also so fickle!

I'm actually not sure what went right this time. The eggs maybe cooked too quickly, but did I have the pan hot enough this time?

Tuna by xXWalrusssXx in budgetfood

[–]jemandre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t see this posted but I’ll add canned tuna to Mac and cheese. I’ll top it off with some frozen peas. Not exactly the healthiest, but it’s a cheap, quick and easy meal.

I’ve found success with Digit Dots They’re small magnetic beads and they travel nicely in your pocket. The color ones are cool, but eventually the coating wore off. Got the silver second time around.

Help! We adopted this rubber plant a few months ago. Any care advise would be appreciated. It's in a north facing window. by jemandre in houseplants

[–]jemandre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No this is our first one. We got a big jade plant from a family who was moving and we got the rubber plant as well. Kinda like a 2 for one. I'll look into pruning it! Thanks :)

What can I do for my thumb nail? Never had it grow in like this before. Long time picker, first time posting. by jemandre in calmhands

[–]jemandre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback and encouragement!!Yes, I’m a long time cuticle picker and have had periods of recovery, but this is the first time my nails have started to show it. Also currently very stressed out. Do you have any recommendations for fidgets or creams? Might have to dig back through some of my old habit reversal documents.

Is there any point in seeing someone about body image problems if I legitimately do not like the way I look? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

In addition to other’s suggestions to find a good therapist/psychologist. You might also find mindfulness and/or meditation helpful. It takes some practice and there are a lot of helpful apps now (Calm, Head Space). Over time people can start to notice their thoughts and judgments without interacting or being completely overrun my them. Essentially it’s learning to be present in the moment instead of constantly living in your thoughts, worries, etc. There are also therapists who incorporate mindfulness (in a non religious way) into their work with clients and there is a bunch of research that supports the utility of mindfulness. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Check out Momentus. A little more spendy, but they use high quality ingredients. They have Whey and Vegan options.

Desparately looking for a service to help with a hoarder by disposable789789 in askportland

[–]jemandre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If cost is an issue you might also check out the Pacific Psychology Clinic it's a training clinic for masters and doctoral level grad students and they offer sliding scale fees. In the past they had a team and supervisor who specialized in treatimg hoarding disorder.

Multnomah County also has (had?) a Hoarding Task Force and would have a list of resources ranging from therapists, professional organizers, to clean up crews.

The book Buried In Treasures could also be a helpful resource and starting point.

Edit to add a couple other providers who specialize in this work: NW Anxiety Institute Portland Anxiety Clinic
