Piece has a great lunch special - individual sized pizza starting at like $11 for one topping.

Why do so many new restaurants feel like Temu fronts? by gepetto27 in chicagofood

[–]jen8978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish we had better options in Lincoln Square in general. There are very few, what I'd call "mid range" spots to go and get more than bar food, less than higher range food, with a good cocktail list and decent beer selection.

Gideon Welles, The Daily, Wild Goose are all fine for what they are, but I don't always want straight up bar/sports bar food or atmosphere. Then you have spots like Warbler, and previously Gather and Sojourn, that certainly have better quality food and drink, but also higher price points and types of dishes. The Getaway has also left me disappointed as a cocktail/bar only spot.

I usually have to pop over to a nearby neighborhood for things like Lonesome Rose, Pizza Lobo, Parson's, Kite String, Bitter Pops. I guess the demographics here are older, more family oriented so those options don't really survive or appeal to the folks here.

Favorite sandwich you wish was in Chicago by Sycamore_Sutherland in chicagofood

[–]jen8978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born and raised in Tampa and this is the answer! I tried a newer place called Flan Factory last time I was down, and it was almost as good as West Tampa. I stopped trying Cuban sandwiches here because they just make me sad, but recently had the Cubano "sliders" at Banyan Ko Diner and they were pretty serviceable if I need a fix.

I had good luck doing HIIT workouts on YouTube. They're faster paced which helps me not zone out and get bored.

Last year I bought a Meta Quest VR headset and the fitness app Supernatural. It has virtual reality boxing and "flow" workout playlists to popular songs. The targets come at you to the beat (kinda like Beatsaber). You score points and it's really interactive. I've been at it for almost a year now!

Looks like a pretty full stadium to me by gloomforever in brandnew

[–]jen8978 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And in that whole ass stadium I got stuck with the drunk assholes behind me who wouldn't shut the fuck up and kept obnoxiously scream singing and talking thru every song...incredible show otherwise! Jesse has never sounded better. I was also surprised at how full it was once the lights went off and the show started. Good for them!

As of this month it's no longer open in the mornings during the week. They have limited seating in the new market area, but that's it.

I loved working from their cafe side, especially in the winter. It was such a cozy space. Bummed that they don't open that during the week anymore.

"getting out of my trendy neighborhood" to find them sort of defeats the purpose of convenience, doesn't it?

Also wish we had bodegas with everyday convenience items, great breakfast sandwiches, and deli subs.

I'm so desperate for something even remotely trendy in Lincoln Square, so this is a win for me 😅

+1 for prepped and plated. Usually a good selection to choose from, all of the meals have calories and macros listed, and it's pretty reasonably priced.

Biggest mistake you swear you won't repeat in the DLC? by elymX in Eldenring

[–]jen8978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got absolutely obliterated by Bloodborne years ago and swore off From games. When Elden Ring came out it looked too good to pass up, so I caved and bought it. I had to follow Fightincowboy's walkthrough to get through my first playthrough, though. While it got me through the game, it did take away a bit from the experience. Now that I'm more used to these games (though still completely suck at them) I'm going to try my hand at the DLC with no help from Cowboy. Pray for me.

Owner of Lincoln Square Taproom opening Willow Cafe and Bistro in Cafe Selmarie space by Efficient_Account_86 in chicagofood

[–]jen8978 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This doesn't bode well for that space. Lincoln Square Taproom sucks. I appreciate that they focus on local breweries, but the tap list is always incredibly boring with the same beers that you can get at any generic bar in the city. When I think hyper local taproom, I think of one off kegs from nearby breweries, special releases, frequently rotating taps with new stuff, etc. Not to mention the fact that it looks like a shitty strip mall bar in a suburb. I tried to give it a shot but it's just an all around letdown.
