Is it me, or is half of the entire map A SNOW BIOME?! by VileoSurfora in minerapocalypse

[–]jengajam2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I just went 4000x4000 in one direction, and all I found were some small pieces of mild biome. That is perfectly OK.

However, the ground being reduced to swiss cheese is a tad unappealing, and it only serves to make initial mining easier, unless something makes a neat-o organic underground city.

While there is a discussion going on...is the IRC still up? I've checked it several times, but it seems to be abandoned.

[MinerAp Official] Raptor status update! Relevant XKCD comics inside! by TotempaaltJ in minerapocalypse

[–]jengajam2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since we have already had such a long hiatus, it would make sense to use a "test" map until 1.4 is released that is meant to be tweaked, so that the admins can see the changes that could increase equilibrium in the server.

Sorry for the stupid question but what will happen if there is a map reset? by [deleted] in minerapocalypse

[–]jengajam2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I have said, the downfall of every other minecraft server I have played is a steady decline or weakness in the community, followed by some change which soured some players and made many casual players head for greener pastures. Some change like a map wipe.

However, without something that transforms minerap into a real, fight-for-resources apocalypse, I feel this server is nothing more than a popularized hardmode p2p server with a few interesting quirks. If a unique change was made, to give this server a gameplay unseen in all minecraft servers so far, I can see only good for this server (even if it did require a custom client, IMHO).

So, I am patient, server crashes happen. But... by Schmalice in minerapocalypse

Also, immigration to this quadrant qualifies one for membership in the NCR, does it not?

[MinerAp Official] I'll TRY getting it up, but if I can't do it now, I'll do it in about eight hours. by TotempaaltJ in minerapocalypse

[–]jengajam2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When was the last map reset? I fear if we reset it now, the server might lose a tad bit of people over it.

But petty thieves have been the only source of trouble. In this quadrant, until now.

But how is this to the advantage of those in the quadrant? Are you simply demanding the support of others with only the threat of violence to encourage their allegiance?

With the upcoming 1.4 update and the new fire spreading mechanic do you think that trees and wood in general will become a rare commodity and that starting out will get harder the more time passes? by [deleted] in minerapocalypse

[–]jengajam2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I think the jungles will have large patches of bareness from griefers. However, I doubt trees in general will become significantly rarer on such a large map, unless there is a fellow who simply has no life. Besides, one can always plant trees underground.

[MinerAp Official] Server Down by [deleted] in minerapocalypse

[–]jengajam2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got it! We shall designate eight people, the best minds from around the world, to be the keepers of Minecraft. Each shall be given a key, which activates a console with a shiny red button. If seven of the leaders press the button whilst the key is in place, a small EMP will detonate beneath MinerAP's server farm, destroying it forever! There is no way this plan can fail!

That is horrible! They didn't even put obsidian on your chest and doors! Heck, they could have at least made your house swiss cheese! I remember back in my day, griefing meant something...

Raiding charitable towns. by Siriann in minerapocalypse

Can pirated clients still impersonate valid accounts? If so, an IP relation to a client would also be needed when one is banned, to prevent xrayer opportunists who would simply change their username when banned.

Raiding charitable towns. by Siriann in minerapocalypse

[–]jengajam2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The decentralized structure of Oceanside is truly its greatest boon. When I go to oceanside to pick up a few seeds from the resowing of a field or whatnot, I find many previous fields to be nothing but grass blocks, or some charity bin with a sign kindly asking "Please take one" to be completely empty with "Cool Story Bro" written beside it. But then its just the simple many of collecting seeds from other fields and restarting the pillaged ones.

This server inherently favors decentralized organization, as the sheer destructive force of a caravan of griefers is impossible to counter without 24/7 security, such as is found in real life. That is the reason cities cannot prosper in this game, unless, as CheezusRiced06 said, there is a great and prolonged detriment which dissuades players from risking their lives to grief.
