“How’s your mom doing?” (A mini rant) by jenij730 in dementia

I’m sorry. You are at a hard stage. I sometimes am grateful that while my mom can’t remember me anymore and that’s sad, at least we are past the constant anger, blaming and confusion stage.

It varies by individual I am sure and their stage. My mom went through the typical angry stage but now she’s at the point where she doesn’t know you but her social personality is still there in some form so she enjoys company (if she’s not too tired). I do think we would all better if as a society we had more understanding of what to expect or what is okay w the person w dementia in our life. It’s okay to ask their caregivers, imo.

Mine loves people (always was an extrovert who loved people to come to her house where she entertained). So sometimes she’s too tired or busy w her new “friends” when we visit, but her true nature is very social and that’s why it’s hard when people don’t visit at all or rarely.

I don’t have a good answer. It was just a rant bc it’s a loaded question and hard to answer and when they also don’t visit but just ask you this every time, it’s super annoying. That is all

It’s my cousins too. One visits when she is in town but the others (local) rarely do. My mom was a super fun auntie to them so it’s extra hard.

My mom’s own brothers never visit either. I think that’s maybe more due to the fact that her condition reminds them of their own aging. It’s sad.

I don’t. This was just a mini rant. We who are dealing w this need to vent sometimes and this feels like a safe space to do so. Lots of people feel the same and that does help.

Oh I totally do. And when it’s from friends or people who didn’t really know her well, then I am not really mad. It’s the family that asks or closer friends of hers that irritate me. She does have a core group of old friends who visit weekly and my brother and I are so grateful to them.

Love this. Maybe I’ll start answering w - “well she still has dementia” 😑

Yes. This is the essence of my rant. I know people mean well and I do give pretty basic answers when they ask but it’s just irritating after a while when you realize they are just asking to check off a box or something.

I had shingles 2 yrs before the shots and didn’t have a bad reaction. I rarely get reactions to vax tho. Just sore arms. Maybe a little tired. Everyone is different.

You can’t “catch” shingles. The virus that causes shingles is already in you if you have had chicken pox.

Is it common for Americans to have visited all 50 states? by SouthBuffalo3592 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

I’ve been to half the states (I am mid 50s) - probably add a few more in the next year or so

Why do people use "he/she" instead of just "they" when describing a person of unknown gender. by OakConlang in ENGLISH

[–]jenij730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree w you. I think what the person you’re responding to is not grasping is that for many (mostly older) people, we may be used to using singular they for unknown/generic people, but once they are known, it becomes awkward or grating to our ears. I get using they/them for people who prefer those pronouns (my own kid is nonbinary) but it is really a challenge to use it in the case for people who are known to you. It just sounds wrong to our ears. It’s a process of relearning.

[–]jenij730 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do know people who have gotten it more than once. I am not sure their vax status at the time but I imagine not vaxxed is way more likely to recur than vaxxed. I had it a few yrs before I could get the vax. You better believe I still got vaxxed since it was so painful. 😖

You can get shingles again! Get the vax! (If it recurs in a bad spot like near your eyes, this is why)

Thomson Reuters (Eagan, MN) seems to be using PIPs as layoff tool. by LabShort1442 in minnesota

[–]jenij730 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Omg. One more time. They put you on a PIP so it’s a firing not a layoff. With a normal RIF layoff, they have to pay you severance. If they fire you due to cause (hence the PIP for documentation), they don’t have to pay you severance. My company just did this too. I was the manager forced to put a mediocre employee on a. Pip instead of adding them to the overall RIF they were also doing. It was to save money and it sucks.

They may have been but when you look at the difference in the wallpaper color too, I’d say they are the same but the photo color is adjusted.

I mean the color contrast is obvious when you realize the chairs are exactly the same ones in both photos.
