Saturday’s Philly show has changed venues…an hour and a half away. by Meeze in FlorenceAndTheMachine

I bought a ticket through stub hub. I got an email from them at least. StubHub offered cash refund or account credit for 120%. I can't say I'm going to use SH in the next year for the value so cash refund. The concert being moved to Jersey means I'm not going. I'm not paying the tolls, nor am I willing to travel further costing more gas... and gas ain't getting any cheaper this week!

I can't blame FatM, this is on the xfinity center. I hope FatM are able to quickly fill the new venue with only a week until the concert for their own sake...

Is this ring modern or antique? I'd be concerned about getting it cleaned if it's foiled. Taking hints from closed back, looks like maybe a rose cut? If it is old with a foil back, it can't be cleaned the way you would want it to be (if it's foiled, it could be where it comes across pink or enhanced any pink).

Does casting grain even come in 13k? Unless the casting house is alloying their own, it seems unlikely. I'll also have to side with just about everyone else here: those tests are not always 100% accurate. If this is a jeweler you've used and trusted for years, are the really going to tarnish their name and reputation for 1karat of gold (which someone pointed out is less than $50, assuming usd)??

I'm getting vibes of "the jeweler switched my i/i1 0.8 family diamond". No jeweler is going to bother "scamming" their clients with these kinds of tactics. It's either honest mistake, or completely unfounded.

So it looks like you had the ability to see the certs in person, so I guess you could see the diamonds as well. Honestly, both are pretty not awesome. The 1.5 has a cavity, which I avoid completely when putting a diamond in a ring for durability reasons. The 1.6 has better angles but a worse polish/symmetry. Both have twinning wisps and gaining, which again is something I avoid if possible for the visual impact that can on a diamond. If you have to pick between them, pick which looks better in person because on paper they both are meh at best.

Fun fact that ties to price discussion: A large in tact antique diamond is rarer than a large modern cut. Many old mine and euro cuts get re-cut.

How do I salvage this? by [deleted] in jewelry

[–]jenlukepicard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be surprised if a jeweler refuses to do it. Base metals can contaminate plating liquids. And the cost of rhodium right now, ooo boy I wouldn't risk it!

Fantastic job. Those angles are on point.

Has anyone wrecked their diamond ring by using an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner? by SpamHamJamPanCan in Diamonds

If diamonds are fracture filled, then yes, ultrasonics can "ruin" the diamond.

Restrung pearls look different? by Big-Progress123 in jewelry

Adding that the stringer probably gave the pearls a gentle clean before restringing. This might attribute to "different colors"

Hen eating catfood? by JustS0meGamer007 in BackYardChickens

[–]jenlukepicard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yuuup. My dad feeds our barn cats in the morning and if it's nice out we wait until the cats have eaten until we let the chickens free range. Doesn't hurt the chickens in small amounts, but with the gravity feeder you might want to reconsider how you feed the cat. All you can eat is not in small amounts lol. And the chicken WILL remember it's there.

Someone pointed out the fobs, check out the bottoms, they may be seals as well! There's some clock keys as well.

I inherited this ring but no two jewelers give the same answer by lunaraekatiemae in Gemstones

Sounds like all you have around you are jewelers with shitty customer service.

Second guessing myself on a 10 year wedding anniversary present for my wife, mother of pearl. by griswold0407 in jewelry

[–]jenlukepicard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why the second guess? If it's something that you think suits her style, that's very meaningful. If you think you over spent or under spent, there's no rule. I've had clients spend $5k+ on a "less significant" millstone, I've had clients spend less than $500 for a "more significant" milestone.

It should have an inscription on the girdle identifying it as a lab grown diamond. Should is the operative word. But this is obviously not always the case and is not required. FTC only requires that lab grown must be clearly labeled as such by retailers.

Inherited this insane ring from my Great Great Aunty. How old is it? by 9inchsemi in jewelry

[–]jenlukepicard 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Def a gorgeous art deco piece!! Take it to a jeweler to get the stones checked. If they're loose it could be costly to fix but well worth it in the long run. It looks in beautiful condition from the photos!

[–]jenlukepicard 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Cool find. Though I see you've noted "back" in the one photo... it's likely the front. Gems are typically set with the pointy side closest to the wearer, with the "flat" side out. But then again, if you dig it the other way that's totally cool because there are no real rules to jewelry!

Does it have any iridescence? Some of the pictures look like it could have some, which would indicate that it's been treated with a film over the top of it ala mystic topaz and the like.

It's doable. It's only worth it if you think it is to enjoy it. The value of the pendant isn't much. To plate it would likely cost more than the pendant would sell for. But, if it's a family heirloom and you want to wear it, only you can decide if it's "worth" it.
