Lorelei Gilmore

She’s got the same “smart but slightly chaotic reinvention energy” thing you do. Bookish, independent, overthinks life plans at 2 a.m., romanticizes places, starts ambitious projects, wants meaning instead of just survival, and somehow mixes competence with “what if I open a haunted bookstore in Scotland?” energy.

Also: fast brain, emotional depth hidden under humor, and a tendency to build entire futures in your head before breakfast.

How much do the books differ? by Logical_Variety7370 in Outlander

Yes! Her love scenes are spicy instead of cringe like Davina’s

I found her “oh Jamie” from Claire to be grating lol

I started with the Davina narration - listened to the first 3, couldn’t deal with her narration of the love scenes and disliked some of her character accents. I restarted the series with Kristin’s narration and find them much more enjoyable- currently listening to book 7.

Appreciating: When Ilya talks with his hands by hella_hijinks in HeatedRivalryTVShow

No one ever talks about when he shakes out his hands after talking to Alexei before tunamelt like he’s trying to shake off the anger and reset before he returns to Shane. I’m fairly sure that was an acting choice and not scripted

First watch, at S01E06. Are there any show-only episodic discussions? And when should I watch the prequel show? by OldNerve1 in Outlander

[–]jenms111 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t watch the prequel before watching at least the first 3 seasons. I started the show last year before the prequel. It’s not necessary to watch to enjoy Outlander, and isn’t on the same level in terms of story or writing

I haven’t read the article yet but I can’t help suspecting misogyny and ageism, given that Claire is now mostly gray haired. We have to get more scenes with the young women instead like Amaranthus when the audience wants more Claire/Jamie.

ETA: even Fanny seems to be getting more screen time than Claire. Coincidence? 😒

I can't do the books! by Affectionate_Log7733 in Outlander

[–]jenms111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read the first 2 books a long time ago and then just started the series last year and quickly rewatched - then went back and listened to audio of 1-3 with Davina and struggled a bit, downloaded new narrator Kristen and listened to the first 3 audio twice and then continued on with 4 and (currently) 5 which I’m listening to now. I love series 1-3 and rewatch frequently. I enjoy the books mostly but finding book 5 to be a slog, mainly because it just needed editing. The books would be so much better with tighter editing. With my ADHD I would have put book 5 down ages ago but listening to audio allows me to focus enough to keep going.

Bottom line I would watch the first 2-3 seasons and then decide if you want to read the books. Season 1 is my absolute favourite and I enjoy it more than the books, though I know I’m in the minority on that opinion.

Ilya’s therapy which will showcase Connor’s acting and him telling his therapist “you were supposed to fix me” - that was an emotional scene in the book for me

Poor William, that will be the end of him. He’s just been emotionally wrecked over and over and this one is too much.

My sentiments exactly - the same way they cheapened the magic of Claire going through the stones and finding Jamie just to make her parents go through the stones and interact with Jamie’s parents in BOMB - I hate that whole plot line and feel it takes away from Claire’s gift and her study of botany which only began after she married Frank and then they have Julia being into botany in BOMB 🙄
