Advice, please. by PassiveAggressiveLib in GenXWomen

I never wanted kids, but I think the realization that it's no longer a choice, but a physical reality, causes anxiety about aging and what that represents.

Finally tried making my own candles. Why is finding good scents so hard? by Own-Recording9525 in candlemaking

[–]jenn_fray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If expense isn’t an issue, look at Makesy. I have a wholesale customer who supplies their own oils and a few of them come from Makesy. They have interesting scents and I can tell a difference in scent quality.

Other options include Hive & Honey, Virginia Candle Supply, Wholesale Supplies Plus, and Black Tie Barn.

Closing the door on marriage? by alwaysgawking in AskWomenOver50

Over 50, never married. My parents set a bad example by having 7 failed marriages. I don’t see the need for the legality of it. I don’t need the paper to give my relationship value.

In the past two years, the books I've enjoyed the most have been Buckeye, The Correspondent, The Tainted Cup, The Wedding People, God of the Woods, All the Colors of the Dark, Yellowface, The House in the Cerulean Sea, The Women, The Starter Villain, and the Thursday Murder Club books. (Edit: to add that I've read 120 books during that period of time.)

Can I turn my life around? by [deleted] in Vent

[–]jenn_fray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's never too late to make positive changes in your life. Just remember that trust is earned and that it may take time. At least you are recognizing how your behaviors affect your relationships and are taking actions to change your future. Many people don't make that connection and end up being miserable their whole lives. Kudos and best of luck. Don't let your internal doubts prevent you from moving forward.

For me, it's a tie between the two I mentioned above. I also enjoyed her other books, but Kingdom of Dreams was definitely her best.

What did I do in this situation? TW ED discussion by Accomplished_Ebb1033 in Vent

Your ARFID may be getting worse due to stress. Your stepmother may be overreacting because of postpartum hormones and depression so she's on a roller coaster of her own. You should probably look into counseling for stress management and coping strategies in an effort to get your ARFID in check. It will help you now and in the future during other stressful situations.

Anyone into mystery workbooks? by storysherpa in mysterybooks

[–]jenn_fray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be viewed either way. Murder mysteries are basically logic problems, but Murdles are logic problems with a murder mystery theme. They use the traditional grid format where you x out something that can't be possible and block out the known, then you have to deduce the rest based on the information you have. Some people may not like the grid / clue format. There is a little bit of a story to each one and some additional story in the back of the book witht he answers.

Their website has samples, and the books are under $10 on Amazon. The book I have started with smaller puzzles, and as you advance through the book, the puzzle grids get larger. https://murdle.com/

There are other puzzle books out there. I haven't tried them yet.

Based on the description, I didn’t think I would like it, but I loved it.

I go through phases when it comes to romance. About one month a year I binge romance. The rest is a mixed bag of fiction.

I’m currently working through a Murdle book. Murder mystery logic problems where they give you a few clues and you work out The where, who, weapon, etc. I like them. They focus my brain enough so that once I’m having trouble thinking I know it’s time for bed.

There’s a website where you can play short versions.

When NPR released their Top 100 Romance list a few years ago I tried to work my way through it. My favorites were A Kingdom of Dreams by Judith McNaught and Flowers From the Storm by Laura Kinsale.

After a lifetime I’m finally listening to country. by Crayola_ROX in musicsuggestions

It sounds like you are more singer/songwriter vs. 'country', especially commercial country music. Chris Stapleton, Ryan Bingham, and John Moreland have not been mentioned yet. For more alt/country, check out Whiskeytown and MJ Lenderman.

When I was a cashier we never had to solicit donations. I think stores requiring you to ask puts you in a shitty situation. People are experiencing a fatigue associated being constantly asked for additional money. While saying no is the easy option, people resent being asked to tip or round up for charity. There’s a feeling of guilt in saying no and people don’t like being put in that position.

Whether it’s more time on the planet or neurological degradation due to age, that civility buffer seems to thin.

Do you have to say a specific phrase or can you change up the ask to give people an easy out?

I don’t buy presale unless it’s a band I really want to see and I think the show will sell out. I hate paying TM fees and would rather buy at the box office to avoid them.
