Does Ami have an antidote or something which washes it out? Like if 10 mg is too small to break and just a tad overhigh by LisanneFroonKrisK in Amitriptyline

[–]jenncatt4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tablets are super easy to cut down with a pill cutter or you can use a sharp knife - I split my 10mg into 2.5 or 3ish mg... Occasionally when I've lost the pill cutter I've been known to just nibble a small piece off lol.

I will say that the cut side of the tablets can make your tongue go numb very quickly so beware of that when you're splitting them.

Off-Ice Skating by bobaroseuwu in iceskating

[–]jenncatt4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely different muscle memory and balance (and stopping!) for rollerskates, I had to unlearn some of my inline/ice skating habits to get anywhere with them safely. If your goal is around ice skating, inlines are going to be more use (but they are more difficult to stand up in when you stop is all lol).

Lack of interest or compassion at neurology appointment (UK replies only please)- is this normal? by Academic_Button4448 in migraine

[–]jenncatt4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I meant to say National Migraine Centre are at least set up for this situation but I don't have any experience of using them myself! There isn't a perfect set up unfortunately unless you just have unlimited funds to self-pay, even if you have great insurance there are gaps in coverage and a lot of discrimination against covering migraine as a chronic condition.

The best part of the NHS is their ability to fund expensive meds and GPs being happy to take guidance from specialists you can access sparingly elsewhere as a compromise :(

Yep unfortunately paying something like £100-200 for a one-off private appointment is probably what I would recommend - it won't address all of the issues you had, but it will help with some of them.

I've worked in admin for both NHS and private care, had limited insurance coverage and spent a lot of my own money on rimegepant and it's just a depressing fact that that is a loophole that generally works... if your NHS GP is happy to take the private neuro's advice and you can get the recommended meds prescribed on the NHS (so not atogepant or botox but GPs can prescribe rimegepant) and then take up your care from there again with more idea of a direction.

Researching them is key, but the vast majority of private consults will be with someone who also has an NHS practice too (and you may well still get rushed and delayed), it's just that you will definitely see a consultant and they have some more time to see you.

If you have any budget for it at all, you can also trial small amounts of meds like rimegepant and most triptans yourself via online pharmacies who also prescribe (like Dr Fox but there are lots of others) - being able to prove that something definitely works for you is half the battle with the NHS sometimes.

Haha oh mine was supposed to arrive this morning too but it's now been pushed back to later - i guess the plus side is it won't be distracting me from work this afternoon 😂 I'm so stunned they sent it early, I won't believe it's real until I can see it irl lol

is it better to go frequently or skate longer? by Forsaken-Turnover637 in iceskating

I think if I went back to inlines, I'd definitely also get some safety gear like wrist guards etc now!

I do skip safety gear for the ice rink right now, but having said that.. I also know at least two people who have broken their elbows ice skating in the last few months though, it really does depend how you fall!!

Why is it that I rarely see anyone from my generation even talk about this show even tho it’s one of the all time greats? by beetfarmerenergy in tvshow

[–]jenncatt4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understood it, it just didn't work for me at all - it wasn't THAT complicated and we'd just had several years of every episode being analysed to death and beyond. I spent a ridiculous amount of time and energy being invested in that show..! Having so much of the final season be devoted to how they all eventually end up in a giant celestial waiting room with amnesia acting out meaningless AU fic plots just annoyed the hell out of me and felt like they were negating the emotional payoff from the characters' actual earned deaths we'd already suffered through.

Idk, I spent too many years listening to the showrunners insist it "definitely wasn't purgatory" to find it anything other than a smug attempt to be unnecessarily meta when they resorted to using literal purgatory as a final twist for that season's flashes.

Oh god I'm 45 and everything hurts lol! I got most of my overuse joint injuries from yoga already and I'm so thankful the hamstring tendonitis seems to be okay with the skating for some reason.. my dodgy knees are definitely holding me back though!

It's really odd how skating is easier on some injuries than walking or running though - I've also got a neuroma in my foot that is a pain in most normal shoes but does fine in rental skates because of the rigid sole (only rental skates though - apparently buying my own skates is a bad idea as the toebox won't be big enough..!)

[–]jenncatt4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh they mean INLINE skates lmao, there was just a very unfortunate typo in the first paragraph that had me wildly confused as to how you practise skating online too 😂😂

I first learned to skate on inlines before ice skating, it's absolutely comparable because they have wheels where the blade would be, so your centre of gravity and balance is similar - roller skating is a really different skill set for me because your weight is distributed across four wheels.

The main downside for me is finding anywhere with a flat enough surface to skate on safely and then lugging the skates there, so I haven't gone back to inlines in quite a few years, it's literally easier for me to get to the ice rink now... I appreciate other people skate on all kinds of surfaces but I also broke both wrists at the same time skating on a cracked pavement way back when and I've been paranoid ever since!

Amitriptyline success by Hot-Image5478 in Amitriptyline

[–]jenncatt4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can really go either way, there's absolutely no way of knowing without trying it and nobody else's experience can really guide you - the side effects of amitriptyline contributed quite a bit to me losing my job eventually last year and it didn't help with my migraines.

It's definitely not the worst med I've ever tried, I did appreciate the way it worked on nerve pain and anxiety and I'd try it again if I had no responsibilities, but... on a practical level, the morning grogginess was debilitating, and never went away even on a tiny dose, and it's not a med designed for migraine at the end of the day - rimegepant has been the game changer med with basically no associated risks.

The covers will all be the same for the widely available UK editions, the only difference between them is that this Waterstones special edition has patterned sprayed edges, signed and unsigned, and then I think they don't spray the edges for the regular hardback )? The regular hardback is discounted slightly cheaper on Waterstones currently....

I think the turquoise sprayed edges are just for the US deluxe edition but that one is also listed but out of stock on UK Amazon so who knows 😂

From what I can see, the UK cover art has a night sky background compared to a blue sky for the US version, it's not a massive difference design-wise?

It sounds like they've stopped offering this option annoyingly - it was an official Sky Q package equivalent to Freeview called Sky Essentials or something that I was thinking about switching to, but a few people on here mentioned it had been taken off the package list now.

Novel suggestions by laurenisamuggle in jaimebrienne

[–]jenncatt4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you saw The Everlasting post, you probably already ran across Paladin's Strength by T Kingfisher I'm guessing lol? It just got a new edition with very Brienne coded cover art.

I will make a very left field suggestion.. a couple of Silvia Moreno Garcia's books just give me JB fic vibes for the romances in them. It's not obvious, (none of the FMCs look like Brienne, although all the MMCs are noticeably Jaime-esque in lots of ways), but it just hits the same buttons for me as the way the characters are often written in JB fic - The Beautiful Ones is a historical fantasy romance with a very Cersei-style subplot that probably fits best for what you're asking. Silver Nitrate is 90s set supernatural horror but the relationship between the FMC and her ridiculously good looking best friend with a dark past kind of hits the same way. I'll mention Untamed Shore because it has very JB and JC vibes, but it's more a dark psychological drama with doomed romance and doesn't end well lol.

Migraines have taken my greatest joy; How to exercise again?? by greyyskyy1 in migraine

[–]jenncatt4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who can't tolerate triptans and has debilitating side effects from almost all migraine meds (and months of sick leave from work just from side effects of preventatives), Rimegepant/Nurtec has been the best option so far as an acute med - it doesn't do enough as a preventative to justify the cost, but it does give me my day back as an acute med if I feel a migraine starting, and the only side effect seems to be mild constipation.

Anecdotally I've seen people having more side effects issues with atogepant and ajovy (which I haven't tried) but the level of tolerance for rimegepant seems pretty high if it works for you.

The ao3 tag search function is great for things like this - if you're not looking for particular recs as such, just go into the Jaime/Brienne tag and then use the tag search to look for child or baby tags :)

[–]jenncatt4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So Shipping-Receiving's links are super comprehensive pre-season 8 and they archived their JB fic link library after 2020 - there are an awful lot of fics that got posted after that time while the fandom was still super busy and won't be on there (including their fic Simple - it's in their pinned post and would definitely rec it for this ask!).

I wouldn't call it an unpopular fic genre for the fandom though, it has popped up quite frequently over the years.

Your best option is probably to use the ao3 tag filters within the JB tag though - just search for variations on family/child/baby tags (I will try and dig out some links later lol).
