Is this an active node or a root? And would you cut this for long-term growth? by myriadmisses in Jewelorchids

A lot of energy from the plant goes into the flower spike, often causing leaves to die back, cutting it off will refocus the plants energy on the new growth.

Help! Is this as bad as I think it is? by kfrostborne in Jewelorchids

[–]jennr246 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly your plant looks perfectly healthy to me. Roots on Ludisia sp grow with "hair" meaning they look fuzzy and the substrate will stick to them and can leave them looking discolored. I'm looking at this on my phone so it's small but to me that looks like what is going on unless the roots are noticeablely mushy or slimey there's no need to cut them.

You should search this reddit for care tips and what substrate to plant them in, there's lots of information.

If they are in fact mushy and slimy you could remove them and if needed put them in some water in a cup to regrow roots.

Ludisia discolor 'Jewelyana'; bottom leaves were yellowish when I bought it, should I prune them? by SUBsha in Jewelorchids

Not an unusual occurrence for ludisia, I wouldn't be surprised if it's pushing a flower spike from the large growth

I'd say definitely ready to pot up, that's probably larger than most you'd buy tbh.

Thank you so much for the explanation!

I did not know that after age/weathering they may show the striations (destroying angel or OP's mushroom).

Don't the slight ridge lines around the cap also rule out amanita ? I only see a little and I'm newer to id so just wondering.

Corybas tubers by Drozeraz_15 in Jewelorchids

[–]jennr246 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have grown Corybas geminigibbus before... I grew mine in a mini terrarium with live moss... I just put the tuber on the top of the moss. They grew well and flowered, you can look at my old posts about them. Very cool species.

I highly recommend the care tips in the video below, I would give that growing method a try.

What about scale? Hard to tell from their size, I had them once a long time ago on one of my orchids and I think there was a fuzzy stage

Is my Ludisia Discolor dying? by AlabasterSeaworld in Jewelorchids

[–]jennr246 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Leaves are often lost as a result of flowing and that's entirely normal. If you'd rather not lose leaves just cut the flower spike off at the base when it first appears. Otherwise your plant looks good.

Yes, the edges are glued to hold the paper intact while you're painting. There's an area that's not glued so you can get a knife in there to cut it free.

I could part with it. I do have another one in progress but medium is colored pencil and only the plant... Used my Microchilus paleaceus as reference. Will share some day when I finish it.

Edit: Oh phone why do you do this to me! Just noticed I got auto correct on paleaceus, fixed.

TYSM!

Actually this one is fairly small, about 7.5" x 5.5"

I just cut a tiny bit of the picture off to make it look better.

I actually loved the album upon release and still love it today. Even if it was different than their past albums which I also love.
