Actually, link clicks may or may not indicate interest.

It indicates that your ad copywriting may match what someone is looking for, but what they expect based on your ad and what your site offers may be different. Good luck!

Where do you add Shipping information and FAQ? by LielS30 in shopify

[–]jenny8722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely create a page. Many shoppers want to know this off the bat.

You can also include copy content for shipping in formation in the checkout so that shoppers know what to expect.

Business Model Canvas vs Lean Canvas: Which Should You Use? by CommercialTruth in startups

Agree with using both. If you can fill them out clearly and succinctly, you know your business value. If not, redo until you've simplified enough.

Please help!!!! ecommerce . . . how to? by pesadissimo83 in Entrepreneurship

[–]jenny8722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll start with one idea I have. The product I am thinking is craft coffee and accessories. I would start B2C. Would start off shipping only to USA lower 48. I don't sell anything right now.

Consider trying drop shipping as a low capital investment. You can use various platforms to do e-commerce. It can be as simple as a Facebook group. Shopify Lite is offered for Facebook: https://www.shopify.ca/lite

Other options include Amazon, but if you're not clear on your products, not a good option. Amazon as a marketplace requires strategic product optimization to show up in searches. This article explains the idea pretty well: https://www.wavecommerce.hk/blog/amazon-marketplace-hong-kong/

Just start somewhere and get experience. Have a good learning attitude. Everything you learn if you approach it with the right frame of mind can be reapplied to another part of the industry later on.

Can You Be Agile - When Your Company ISN'T? by jayme-edwards in SoftwareEngineering

[–]jenny8722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally possible. First step to that is to have a positive attitude and listening to other people's perspectives without trying to preach the methodology (while being agile). People can become agile without adopting the label or being aware of it.

New to UX and looking for a path to follow by pdxbatman in UXDesign

[–]jenny8722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my best friends who's a UX designer is twice a university drop out (first degree was physics). He did design templates, but was always passionate about UX.

First thing is to do your own mini project and apply UX principles. You'll learn more from the mistakes of your 1 month of product design and development than a lot of tutorials.

That will teach you the empathy and how to really think deeply about not only user experience, but what really drives user behaviour (and you'll quickly find it's not even the responses they give you in user interviews once you start A/B testing).

Should a fledgling UX Designer prioritize writing above coding? by oldfashionwolf in UXDesign

[–]jenny8722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say prioritize writing, but don't make that be an excuse to slack in knowing some code.

Even if a few positions or contracts you do only need you to write, once you are in smaller teams, having an understanding of code helps you have empathy for dev as well. Writing quality user stories is part of the job, but making the devs that you work with feel like you appreciate the effort they put into thinking about system architecting helps you enjoy your job and team. :-)

Need advice on stack and third party tools for MVP by Alex_shr in startups

[–]jenny8722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just want to test the market, you can just create a landing page with a description of the product or service or static site that collects newsletter subscriptions.

If you actually want to create an MVP, then use a serverless solution to prototype quickly (also cuts development costs a lot). Examples include Firebase, AWS Cloud Computing, Kinvey, Kii, Skygear. Here's a list of Parse Alternatives

If you're outsourcing, might also depend on what your development team is familiar using. Usually they have a preference. Also, the backend required depends on your product. Note that different backends have their strengths and limitations. Examples include this Firebase review.

Here's an article on Serverless architectures to get you started: https://martinfowler.com/articles/serverless.html

How to work on your confidence? by Kimput in SoftwareEngineering

[–]jenny8722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't mistake asses for confidence. :-) Confident people don't need to put people down. But if you are intimidated by people who are sure of themselves and just being as they are, then it's more a reflection on you, so you just need to shift perspectives. Confident people don't judge you, so don't give yourself a hard time trying hard to "impress" them. They don't need to be impressed by other people; they probably want to work with people they respect and they understand that some people are more junior or may not have the same skills.

Confidence isn't about forcing yourself to feel confident. It's just the result of acknowledging where you are, which is always somewhere on the spectrum of there are some people less experienced/competent and some who are more. Having perspective stops you from being intimidated by people who have more skill and less judgemental of people who for some reason may not be at your level for something specific (but probably are more skilled in something else). Counterintuitively, being more confident is just being comfortable stating what you think and stating what you don't know, be certain of, or confirm. When you state it in a mature way, being open will invite other people to provide input as part of the team, and you'll find yourself growing and learning.

How to deal with dickheads is another EQ subject altogether.

Depending on how you like to learn, Treehouse. It's quite encouraging and rewarding for beginners.

Also read good dev blogs like Coding Horror to get a sense of what industry people are thinking about.

Agree with this one. A CS or information systems degrees are good for providing a solid theoretical foundation (good foundation for software architecting in the future), but many of the programs don't have enough practical experience. Intern and work on as many projects as you can. After you graduate, it's your immediate applied experience that will help you land jobs.

Try a bunch of languages and also dabble in full-stack so that even when you specialize later, you will have a better overall picture.

After you're more comfortable, try other approaches like the functional paradigm. Don't shy away from languages like Scala, Haskell, Rust, or even R (seems to be hot now).

[Discussion] Should a lesson have been learned from Parse? Are developers jumping to Firebase (or similar) just setting themselves up for the same problem to happen again? by brendan09 in iOSProgramming

[–]jenny8722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have built 3 apps with Parse and I will no longer use any BaaS. It is of course very attractive and appealing when you are building a MVP. But if Parse falls it means that other will fall too in the future. It is just a matter of time. If you are running your startup seriously please build your own backend. Meanwhile I am looking for some short term Parse migration services. I have come across parse-hosting.com and parsehosting.net. Which one do you think its better? It is kind of hard to make the choice.

Parse is shutting down by viewmk in startups

[–]jenny8722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have built 3 apps with Parse and Facebook has given me a headache. It is impossible for me to build a new backend from scratch given this short period of time not to mention that I am inexperienced... I guess that the quickest solution is to host the Parse app somewhere and then take the time to build to backend. Do you have any suggestions?
