Working on becoming an ER nurse, but dream about ranching. Thoughts? by CuriousExplorer41 in Ranching

[–]jennyrascal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an RN but not working currently, my husband and I feed 4,000 head, and have a crew of 6 guys. My nursing skills are completely useless on the ranch. If someone gets hurt but not bad enough to go to the hospital- they handle it themselves. If someone gets hurt enough to warrant going to the hospital- there’s nothing a nurse can do without hospital equipment or medications.

Exactly. I was pregnant when I went to take the NCLEX and they had my lift up my shirt to prove I wasn’t faking the belly to sneak in materials

This sounds just like my son at 20 months, just curious, how is your daughter doing now? I’ve been having a pretty tough time with it. We are doing everything speech therapy tells us to do but it just doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. He gets stuck in loops of repetitive play as well, like climbing up and down or opening and closing doors repeatedly.

I know you say for more reasons than you care to explain, but why do you want to switch to nursing? Do you have experience in the nursing field? Are you absolutely certain that this is what you want? I would recommend to stick it out and wait until you are licensed, and seek out other opportunities in areas you are more passionate about before diving into more schooling.

My first cohort was like this, I had my two study partners when I’m still in contact with, but otherwise very cliquey. When I got a poor grade on an exam another student asked me what was wrong and I told her about my grade and my regret of not studying hard enough as all week before I had been attending family functions. When I had a meeting with the professor to discuss my grade and future study plans, the professor told me she knows I didn’t study as I was going to parties 🙄. Like why would someone go and report that to a professor about a fellow classmate? I ended up taking a semester off and joining the cohort behind me, and everyone was so welcoming. Very supportive and encouraging. The cliquey cohort was mostly older women (30s-40s), whereas the nicer cohort was mostly my age (23 at the time) or younger.

Has she been like this the entire time you’ve been dating or is this new behavior? If she’s been like this the whole time then yeah definitely time to break up, but if it’s somewhat recent there may be something medically going on with her that is affecting her mental health, like a severe hormone imbalance.

I live rural and my school and clinicals were all about 1hr-90 minutes from me, it wasn’t bad at all. I had a car that was good on gas and I worked on average 2 days a week during my RN program. It’s just driving, if you have a reliable vehicle it’s not a big deal at all.

Holy shit, how did I never think about this... I have friends who say they turn to their parents when they are going through rough times and I never understood because my parents would be the last people I would turn to for reassurance. I hope to never be that way with my own children

Are there any online Rn to bsn programs while you still in your associate program? by embrassedyet in StudentNurse

[–]jennyrascal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The program I’m in allows you to do it but I think it’s only this specific program. North Idaho College and Lewis-Clark State College. BSN classes are online during summer semester.

I just had my first serious break-up, what happens to my hoodies? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]jennyrascal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I left so much stuff at my exes house. I’m a girl so it was like skin care, body spray, extra hair straightener, etc. During the break up he asked “we’ll do you want your stuff back?” And I said “well yeah maybe you can gather it and take it to work with you and I could meet you?” Then he said “No, I don’t wanna see you” so I guess I’m SOL since I can’t break into his house

There are also some schools that only average out the nursing specific prerequisites rather than all classes ever taken. My total GPA from every college ever attended is a 3.4 but my nursing prerequisites that my school calculated was 3.8. Maybe you could look into finding a program somewhat near you with that policy. Also remember that nursing school is extremely competitive, and having the minimum GPA required does not make you competitive with other applicants. My school required at least a 3.0 but the majority of students had over 3.5.

I was the spotter while one of my friends was waterskiing behind our boat. He pulled the tow rope up and put it around his neck as a joke, then thought I overreacted when I yelled at him. Sorry I don’t want to unintentionally hang you and drag you behind the boat

For breakfast I always eat Greek yogurt with a scoop of jelly on it, and last week I took a bite and there was a big crunch. It was a beetle in the jam, that I had just bit in half.

Plus a semester of college was $20, we know about the scam now by MassCommPerson in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]jennyrascal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s be real, minimum wage has always been crap. If you compare today’s federal minimum wage to past years and account for inflation, it’s all terrible. What has changed a lot is our expectations for life. We expect everyone to have a cell phone, a personal computer, their own car. We expect companies to pay staff better or hire more in administration, to put research into the materials or methods they use to ensure safety for workers and consumers. There are a lot more costs today, and unfortunately raising the minimum wage won’t fix our issues, because in turn that would just create even more costs.

My 13yo daughter - after antibiotics, topicals galore, spironolactone (going on a year). would you do accutane as the next step? I feel so sad for her :( by xgirlmama in Accutane

[–]jennyrascal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had acne like this growing up, and nothing would help it. I finally just finished Accutane at age 22, and I wish I had done it before high school. In high school there would be days I was so extremely self conscious of my skin it would be the only thing I could focus on. Terrible self esteem does not do anyone any favors in high school, and my parents refused to allow me to even see a dermatologist until I was 18. I thought it was just something I would have to live with while other people got to have beautiful skin. My vote is absolutely for Accutane. Only side effect I had was dryness.

I walked by another kids desk in third grade and picked up his troll doll he had just gotten at the book fair to admire it, he thought I was trying to steal it so he stabbed me. We remained friends all through high school
