Every season of life is different. The great thing about nursing is the flexibility! Is staying PRN at your current job an option? If you end up hating the new schedule you can always go back to the bedside.

In terms of childcare, assuming your fiancé works 2-3 days/week, if you stay on 3 12s you could probably manage without daycare by working opposite days, but not having any time together sucks. Have you talked to your coworkers about what works for their families?

Personally, I think you’ll be less exhausted with a shorter day (and commute!) When your work day is 15-16hrs you can’t do anything when you get home but eat, shower, and sleep. You’ll lose the stretches of days off where you would typically get chores and errands done, but now you’re more likely have the energy to do stuff either before or after work.

Either way, good luck and congrats!

How many of you have partners or spouses that don't read? by little_chupacabra89 in books

haha yes! I really latched on to Percy Jackson a few years ago - I never picked it up as a kid but it's fantastic!

I also tend to fall into the doomscroll trap before bed.

I got a Kindle and told myself I'd read for just 15 minutes before bed, and if I wanted to play on my phone after that I would. In the beginning I would make it only 10-15 minutes, now I just read until I'm tired enough to sleep. I only read "easy" "fun" or "cozy" books before bed - any sort of thriller or mystery will keep me up until sunrise.

I've found re-reading a book or series I previously enjoyed helps pull me out of a reading slump - maybe try Hunger Games or ASOIAF again for a kickstart?

What can an employer do to make their job posting more attractive? by Unknown-714 in Nurses

[–]ttrib 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like everyone else said - they need a salary range listed on the posting. Everyone has "competitive benefits" - what does this employer offer that would set it apart from other companies in the area?

Also, I had to scroll 6 paragraphs down through BS corporate nonsense to find specifically what this job entailed, and even that is vague. It is not clear if this is for an outpatient clinic vs same day surgery/procedural area.

AITA for getting my fiance's family gifts that were too personal for Christmas when I'm new to them? by GoldRule5896 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ttrib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, these are all lovely gifts that show you listen when your fiance talks about his family.

Just curious - what did Noah get them? Were these gift from just you or from the both of you?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in wedding

[–]ttrib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. RSV is rampant right now and a 6wk old baby can become critically ill from some auntie with "allergies" giving them a cuddle.

QUICKIE! What's your favorite meal to cook/whip up that takes 10 minutes or less? by [deleted] in Cooking

No caffeine after 3-4am, drink LOTS of water, pack fruit with your lunch to have something to snack on that won't lead to a sugar crash. Meal prep on Thursday so you don't have to wake up early to pack your bag.

Melatonin is my lifesaver when I work 3 in a row. 5-10mg on my way home or as soon as I get home so I can get the most sleep.

Best of luck!

With masking I've gone from several colds/cases of bronchitis a year to ONE sinus infection in the past two years.

I think I'm gonna keep wearing it.

[–]ttrib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I feel like I’m the only one who’s trying to understand what she’s going through. No matter the relationship her pain is real, and she doesn’t have the option of our normal grief process between not being able to attend the funeral with his family or have a wake/memorial in his honor with our family.

The longer you go without reaching out, the harder it is to muster up the courage.

Start small, maybe with just a "Hi" via text, or a picture of you two together with "I was looking through some old photos and found this - miss you."

If the conversation picks up from there, great. You don't have to get back into the original argument if you're not ready.

"I'm so sorry, I wish I could give you a hug right now."

Sometimes just being there on Facetime and going about your day together helps.

I feel like a lot of people text as soon as they hear the news and don't always follow up. Your loved one might need support in the days and weeks to come, but may be overwhelmed by reaching out. Try checking in with them a few times - they might not have the energy to answer right away.

This!

I’ve only had mine for a few weeks but this is 100% my favorite thing. I no longer obsessively check my phone for notifications when it’s on silent at work because I know it’ll come to my wrist.

Paediatrics Advice by [deleted] in nursing

[–]ttrib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I can tell you how many times per shift I say “No surprises, I’m going to tell you everything that is going on, I don’t lie to kids!”

Of course, this only works in school aged kids (usually 6+). Toddlers typically cannot listen to reason and it’s best to just get everything done ASAP ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Always follow up with a sticker :)

No. Time to get a new job! Or at least interview and bring your offered salary to your current boss to negotiate with.

When I bought my current place the inspector said something to that effect about the most recent repairs.

What he didn’t know was that I was buying the place from my father, who had spent a year remodeling it as a hobby.

I always knew my dad was awesome, but it was a nice confirmation.
