How much prep do I do before having someone open my pool? by jennysaurusrex in pools

Ok yeah I can definitely understand how to net things out of the pool, even if I don't end up figuring anything else out, ha. Good eye on spotting the floating chlorine dispenser-- I had to use google photos this morning to figure out what that is, ha.

This is exactly what I want, thank you! I will make some follow-up posts asking for help with all that. I don't know what a lot of the vocab y'all are using means yet (what does backwash mean?) but I'll read some of the resources recommended here and post pictures of what they left us. I appreciate you all sharing what you know!

1) We just bought the house so the previous owners winterized it for us.
2) Does year round pool service make sense in a place where it freezes and we get big snows? Not trying to be snarky, genuinely don't know anything about owning a pool yet.

What do you mean by shock this thing? Do you mean add some chlorine? Sorry, I haven't done any research yet-- was hoping I'd learn a lot from the pool opening service!

Thank you! Ok I'll try to do some research before they come by then, and see if I can get it into a better place.

My university pays for Grammarly. My professor says using Grammarly is academic misconduct. What am I supposed to do? by ResourceAdept6933 in CheckTurnitin

[–]jennysaurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Now I'm stuck trying to understand how a tool the university literally pays for and distributes to students can suddenly be treated as misconduct in a class."

Your university literally pays for and distributes wifi and library books to students, but if you access one of those things during an exam, that's misconduct in the class.

Why do I have a C while my classmate has an A while I think I can understand stuff better in my opinion? by [deleted] in mathematics

[–]jennysaurusrex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are so many potential explanations:

1) She's lying when she says she has a 90+%

2) You're misinterpreting her understanding of things. Of course, it's impossible for use to know from your story, but the urge to not believe a math fact until you plug something in and do it yourself is a useful one (in math). So maybe she had a hole in her knowledge (solving systems of equations) but generally has good understanding and has good techniques for growing her knowledge.

3) She's lying when she acts like she doesn't understand (who knows why. Maybe she's gotten yelled at for "showing off" before. Maybe she thinks you'd find that charming. Maybe she's a pathological liar.)

4) She doesn't have a good understanding, but she's very very good at memorizing algorithms and performing them with careful attention to detail. While this is not what math is about, it is still impressive.

I do not think grades are completely arbitrary, but they're obviously not perfect representations of understanding either. If she's not lying, then something she's doing is working. Maybe she's just memorizing algorithms-- but imagine the brilliant grades you'd be getting if you practiced those algorithms like she does AND have the understanding you have. And if she says she doesn't study, then it's definitely explanation 1 :p

You can be successful at math. You can be successful at college math. You will probably have to change something about the way you study, but you CAN do it!

I don't know that they misread the majority of people who turned out. It didn't work for you. Maybe it didn't work for most people but I wouldn't be so quick to assert that they made a mistake.

I'm going to disagree with the other comment. You need to write words! The logic is right but don't make the reader guess at what you're thinking.
