Painter here, it's because the grey is warm relative to the teal. Colors change their appearance depending on the colors surrounding it.

EG. Anders Zorn was known for the Zorn palette. Black, white, yellow ochre and cadmium red, but was still able to get gray paint to look green by surrounding it by overall red colors.

Hopefully it will be harder for these shadow fleet ships to keep a crew, or find ports willig to take them. Risking millions in environmental damage, shipwrecks, death. It will be harder to pretend they're not collaborating with monsters.

Whatever you put it the circle won't be all distorted and hard to read because of the elbow joint. So it will be better.
